Completely up its own a'se in my opinion. Full of posters advertising tai chi and yoga, posh bar snacks nobody wants and a clientele of middle-class wannabe hippies.
The bar staff are all women (apart from the landlord, I have NEVER seen a bloke work there or the 'sister' pub the Castle) who like arty scarves in their hair and wearing post modern ironic clothes.
If you've ever seen the Private Eye cartoon 'It's grim up North London', this so-called pub epitomises it!
I'll give it one point for having a cat.

I think the writers of the previous reviews have obviously been spending too much time with the velvet leopard print table cloths of the Nags....
The Village is a great pub. Yes, it could do with a refurb, but frankly the decor doesn't bother me when I'm having a great night out with like-minded people.
The landlord is actually a really nice guy who works there 24/7. As the pub is owned by a weird parent company/brewery thing, his hands are tied when it comes to the ales he has on and the decoration etc. I think he does a good job with what he's got.
I have to laugh at the comment about the world's worst ponytail, as I know who you're talking about. All I would say is before you slag people off (including the group of hatch moaners), try chatting to them first! The Village regulars (with a few exceptions) are the nicest bunch of people you ever could meet who are always up for a talk if you are.
Just don't get started chatting to the old guy with the walking stick. Lovely as he is, you will NEVER get away!!

From the outside, I'd always assumed this was an old blokes/sports type pub but a few months ago, I stumbled in after the Village closed with a few friends.
Since then, it has become my regular Friday/Saturday night haunt due it being open til after 1 and having a great and diverse crowd of people.
On a Friday/Saturday night there are a mix of gay/straight people, 'stow regulars and people from far and wide.
There is always a DJ on - my favourite being a guy called Ian, who plays anything from the Cult to the Weathergirls in one evening and will play requests if he has the tune.
If you're fed up with the pretentions of the Nags and Castle, this is definitely the place to come. The only problem is it doesn't take cards so stock up on cash before you go!

The Nags Head, Walthamstow
Sorry, I'm sticking with the fat plumbers. If I wanted a 'trendy' pub I would've moved to Clapham.
