The Warwick Castle, Maida Vale

I echo what people have said below. Lovely old boozer. Would be nice if we could keep it unspoilt. I once spotted David Soul drinking in here, so it must be good.

The Bridge House, Paddington

Good beer but rammed pub, not helped by the closure of the beer garden on my visit. I bet it's quite good during mid afternoon when there are fewer people there.

The Ribs of Beef, Norwich

Pretty good. I was a tad disappointed with the beer, though. Don't get me wrong, it was good enough, just not as good as I expected it to be. I had been given to expect tip top ales, but none really hit the spot and I ended up drinking Adnams Best, which was the best of about eight different beers on offer. I liked the pub though, just think maybe it had an off night?

The Kings Head, Norwich

Terrific pub. Great beers and ciders and I like the 'no keg' policy a lot. Couldn't fault the place on a recent visit - bet it's a corker in winter when the fires get going. I hear it used to be a bit of a rough biker's pub - not anymore. Understatedly done up and a large no-smoking area to boot. Will definitely go again the next time I'm in town.

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

Stopped off in here while walking back from Dulwich on Friday evening. Had very small child with us and was wondering how that would be received. The landlord/barman opened the door for us to get through and said: "Does that answer your question?" He ushered us through to the outside area and opened the canopy (it looked like it would rain). Made us feel very welcome. Had a great pint of Abbot and two really good pints of Ruddles Best, a beer you would usually be a bit dubious about trying in most places. Felt so 'at home' we decided to sample the pizza, which was delicious and cooked properly. Will definitely come here again.

The Kings Arms, Clerkenwell

Just visited again and had a similarly pleasant lunch, but sampled the Thai food. Delighted to say it was superb.

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch

Just a great pub. Found it by accident about 10 years ago and have been telling people about it ever since. Terrific beer, warm welcome, nice outside during the summer, cosy inside in winter and, like someone else has said, handy for picking up an onion bhaji or samosa on the way to/from. One of the best.

The Dovetail, Clerkenwell

I went here when I was already pretty drunk and I must say the bar staff were very tolerant. Served me a couple of fine beers and were very knowledgeable. They didn't even mind me slurring my words when trying to order. I'll go back again when I'm sober to give it a proper review.

The Kings Arms, Clerkenwell

Just returned from a very pleasant lunch hour at the King's Arms. Two very good pints of IPA and friendly service. Like the upstairs no smoking room and games room - nice touches. A thoroughly good way of spending an hour or so at lunchtime. Will definitely go again.

The Green, Clerkenwell

Some advantages and disadvantages about this place. Good selection of draught and bottled beers, fine array of spirits and wines. The food smells good and the tapas we had were good if small (I know, they're supposed to be). Great jukebox, it has to be said. Would benefit from the addition of a Fall record or two.

But as Emily says, there are two sides to this pub and I think it gets caught between two stools sometimes (three if you count the gallery upstairs). It needs to cater for people who may want a snack to go with their beer but don't fancy shelling out 2.95 on fried baby squid. Crisps and peanuts please. Make 'em Kettle Chips by all means, but give us an option for around about a quid.
