Old Swan Cheddington, Cheddington
Since the new owners have taken over and I wrote my last review this pub has done a serious u-turn for the better! It is amazing how the atmosphere of a pub is so reliant on good landladies and landlords. This is now a pub you would want to take your family for a good value pub meal and I now have to book to get a table. The food is not outstanding but good pub food and after doing a pub crawl along the grand union, including this pub, it was clearly head and shoulders above the rest in terms of the quality of the beer which is kept very well.

Me and the missus went here for lunch for a change as we would normally go to the Anglers. I wish we hadn't. The beer was decent enoughand the barman friendly but I had the worst fish and chips of my life. The fish in batter must have been microwaved as the batter was flatter than a Witches' tit and unedible. I've never seen or tasted any batter as disgusting.
I would certainly never entertain eating here again.

A lovely old building in the nice village of Cheddington. I go here quite regularly as it's nearby. The food is more or less inoffensive standard pub grub and the beer is decent with a rotating guest beer on. Unfortunately that little special touch that makes a pub sparkle and that should come from the landlord and lady, is missing. My feeling is that the current incumbants do not enjoy running the pub and it shows. In summary its good for standard pub grub and a decent pint but nothing special and lacking that incentive to make you come back.

We went there on Saturday for dinner and the food is very cheap 9.95 for 2 courses. The pub itself lacks atmosphere and since it was redecorated 10 years or so ago it's lost all it's olde world charm and no landlord has been able to restore that since. The place needs a good investment, the furniture and decor is in keeping with a village hall. The food was average as expected for the price, the side salad had gone off and there was only Tiger on tap which was flat and not well kept. The 'Phoenix Nights' style advertising for cheap curry nights next to the bar was in keeping with the general ambience.Back in the nineties this pub had a very solid local reputation and its sad to see it not living up to it's once flourishing days. In summary the food is what you would expect for a very cheap price and quite edible (apart from side salad) the bar staff are friendly but the overall standards are at the bottom end of pub fare.
