Nice pub, nice staff except when they ignore their own signs and smoke at the bar. If you ask to be served at the food counter for drinks to avoid the smoke the managreess will tell you that the signs on the tables anouncing "easy ways to pay" on which it says you can purchase food and drink at any till, she will point out that it says food AND drink and ask you to come around the bar in the smoke. How pedantic and small minded can you get.
Good points are: good size car park at the rear as is a nice terrace for those warm summer eves.

Great bar and friendly, good prices as happy hour is 4-8pm. Shame about the smoke.

The Commodore Hotel, Bournemouth
I agree with all the above points, there is however one thing left out and thats the govenor? One of the most miserable and rude publicans I have ever met.
Shame as it is a nice place and has a no smoking section and his staff are nice.

The main reason I joined this site was because I ran the North Pole PH on Greenwich High road London from 1980-85.
Took it from a quiet pub of dart players and Saturday night gin drinkers to a thriving Real Ale Free House.
We had A theatre group that used what is now the first floor restaurant.
The clientele where varied and colourful. Anyone remember little old Flo, an Irish lady that grabbed the best looking guy every night to see her across the Road. Not bad for over 80 years old.
We even had a few legends.
Mr."Tickle the ivories Holland" and the guys from "The Squeeze" (although in those days I did not know them from Adam).
It's a shame to read what it has become now.....in my day it was a REAL PUB.
There you go......

The Spyglass and Kettle, Southbourne
I have been bringing my family and friends here for several months and can say that not only is the food very good value (2 meals for 10 Mon-Fri)but the staff are the friendliest I have come across. And that is all staff all of the time. No mean feat!!!
I had to laugh the night when I saw the Manageress lift the "No Smoking at the Bar" sign, 2" from a customers nose (and ciggy in mouth) to help him read it. See they even cater for the very short sighted.
