The Rose and Thistle, Reading

This has always been a great local pub, nothing changes. We visited it again in November and the place is great. The staff and the landlady, Sue, always go out of their way to greet you with a warm welcome. With a local like this why go anywhere else. The locals are friendly too. There is a wide selection of good food and drink, fantastic.Give it a try.
Special thanks again to Sue, and Eva.

The Redan, Westbourne Grove

Visited this pub in November one lunch time. Stella ok and the barman friendly.at service but no other chat. Tables and stools were clean, I hate dirty sticky ones. The gents was out of action but they allowed the use of the ladies downstairs which was fair enough. My comment to this and any other London pub is keep it friendly, all we want is a bit of interaction, more and more pubs dont talk to customers. Shame.

Windsor Castle, Marylebone

Visited this pub in November, looks really nice inside and out and the barman was reasonably friendly. Now he was OK but the landlord was a different kettle of fish. I really hate when people pretend they interested in you when all they really want is to dig deep into your pocket while looking over your shoulder for the next customer. All we want is a bit interest and a bit of light banter. The beer was ok and the locals at least said hello and goodbye. Think this pub needs management new blood, would make a big difference to atmosphere.

The Wargrave Arms, Marylebone

Well I visited this pub the other night, not been there for almost a year. WHAT A CHANGE. The pub has lost its decent chatty bar staff, there used to be a nice barman called Adam. Hes long jumped ship I was told by a local. Its such a shame the good staff have gone leaving such an unfriendly lot. Having read the other reviews on this site I see Im not alone in my views. Well until they get new management and staff better to give this place a miss.

The Monkey Puzzle, Paddington

Not been to this pub for awhile, The staff were friendly, a nice young Spanish girl served us. A reasonable mix of people and we enjoyed the early part of the evening, had a good natter with some of the locals. Being honest the evening was spoilt when I think the owner turned up, Just ignored everyone including his staff and was only interested in the cash register. It would not have been a problem except he seemed to be worse the ware and caused an atmosphere.

The Daniel Gooch, Bayswater

Friendly enough but a bit souless due to its size more than anything. Wish staff had more conversation for all not just the regulars.

The Warwick Castle, Maida Vale

Not a bad pub but a bit dis-located, Over stacked with furnature, not enough room to move. Lots of people when we visited. Toilets dirty, thats not good.
Good selection of beers but the staff were unable to remember the round even though it was only 4 drinks, happened almost every time. One thing we disliked was all the people hanging around the door outside smoking, lots of cig ends, not nice. Could be so much nicer with a clean and some good staff.

Lovely little pub. Can be hard to get a seat during peak times but always managed to shuffle someone up. Good mix of tourists & locals, after a while they seemed to warm to us and were friendly. Beer was good but dont leave it to go for a cig or it may not be there when you get back. Lots of celeb stuff around the bar, if your into that.

The Larrik, Marylebone

Visited this pub a few times, what we liked was we always managed to get a seat. The cloth covered seat however did need cleaning. It`s a big airy pub with a fair selection of beer. The staff are friendly but I wish they would make more effort to strike a conversation. Not everyone want to sit in silence or watch the TV. The toilets were clean, always a plus.

Found this nice traditional pub tucked just of the Edgware road in W1. Was so pleasing to find pub staff that seemed to be pleased to see you. Got chatting to the nice guy behind the bar, Adam, he was very helpful and served us with a lovely couple of pints of Stella. The locals seemed friendly and it was like a home from home. Dont think we could ask for more, excellent friendly service & good beer.

The Bridge House, Paddington

This pub has always had a bit of an odd feeling. Its such a shame to see the wall paper peeling off the walls and the shabby decor. When we visited we chose to have a couple of pints of larger, we asked if it possible to have some beer mats but was told "No", its not the bar policy. The beer was terrible so we left it. Everyone seemed to be drinking tea and reading newspapers, like a student rest room. The bar & tables were unclean & sticky. Nobody cleaned while we were there. They obviously serve food, Saw him in the toilets with his Chefs whites on......Yuk. What we want is a clean pub with good beer and a spark of interest and concern from staff.
