The Volunteer, Sutton Abinger

Had a very nice meal a few nights ago. Table service was exemplary and friendly. On leaving, my friend queried the bill as it appeared expensive and was told that the 2 double expressos were �3.50 each. He expressed the view that that was exhorbitant--cheaper in London--and the bloke behind the bar reacted in a very off-hand manner, made some facetious remark and walked away.
Pity, because his attitude was totally out of order. So much so, my friend will not go to this pub again.

Went there today and, despite a huge number of walkers etc, had excellent service and good food. The family worked their socks off!! We will return.

Scarlett Arms, Walliswood

We went to this pub for the Malaysian evening at the end of September. It is a popular event and was, as a result, very busy. With good reason. The staff were running around to keep everyone as happy as possible. This included the landlady who hails from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.The food was good--our party all know their Malaysian food--and plentiful. The beer was also good.
If the service was a tad slow. it was understandable.
We have been to this pub a few times before for normal pub food and I would recommend it. The service was quicker though as it wasn't crowded.

The Botley Hill Farmhouse, Warlingham

Went there after a long walk recently and were pleasantly welcomed. Food was OK but one of our party had to complain about a very small fish dish priced at �10.95. She was offered another dish free which made up for the disappointment. Good beer and friendly service throughout.

The Crown, Capel

Six of us went there for lunch a few days ago and were anitially a bit apprehensive given some of the negative reviews.
It was quite busy but not overly so. The food and drink were fine and the landlady gave us a large helping of chocolate brownies for good measure at the end of the meal.
We were cheerfully and efficiently served which made a big difference.
