A Wadworth pub just set back enough off the main Shirley Precinct that has well kept beer (constantly in Good Beer Guide), great staff - especially Jo the landlady (and her daughter), great bunch of eclectic locals and convivial to strangers.
There are normally 5-6 beers on, four Wadworths and 1-2 guests. Added to this are beer festivals that are held from time to time which I have had the pleasure to enjoy!

The Wellington Arms, Southampton
A good pub for real ales, beer quality and choice. The only downside I find in the times I have been in is the sourfaced miserable older woman who was serving - same woman the four or so times I called who has the attitude to turn your beer sour !
