The Kings Arms, Dorking

It's been closed for a few months.

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Why don't you go somewhere else if you want to continue your puerile slanging match. It really is pathetic. If you like the pub, drink there. If you don't, don't.

The William Bray , Shere Guildford Surrey

Several of my friends who are local have now reverted to the White Horse as the beer in the Bray is so poor. They would not have made that move lightly!

The Black Horse, Gomshall

Apparently due to be refurbished and re-opened as a cafe in 2011.

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer

Lionel
Thanks for coming on and letting us know the situation.

Will pop in soon.

The Bulls Head, Dorking

The landlord has changed and has brightened the place up and got rid of the bar billiards table. I understand the landlord has come from The Old House at Home

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer

A significant improvement on previous owners. I agree with Surrey Yokels's comments. It is good to have a pub that's more of a typical old fashioned pub in the midst of the many gastro pubs in the area.
They usually have a couple of real ales which are in fair condition, on Saturday it was Shere Drop, which was very good as ever, and another.

The Black Horse, Gomshall

The agent's board says the pub has been sold. I don't know what the plans are though.

It seems that hello1973 has lost his/her objectivity with their only posts over the past 17 months praising the Gomshall Mill Inn on its own comments page or that of other local pubs.

It seems that hello1973 that lost his/her objectivity with their only posts over the past 17 months praising this place on this comments page or that of other local pubs.

As an independent local I am pleased that the Gomshall Mill Inn as it is now named has changed so the bar has a pubby feel to it. There are now nearly always 1 or 2 beers from the local breweries, Dorking or Hogs Back. However there are rarely 4 pints on at one time .It's a restaurant first and foremost with a small bar with a great fire where people can eat or drink

Its a good place with reasonably kept beer and friendly staff, but lets keep some perspective.

5 Feb 2010 15:59

The Star, Dorking

It's a great pub, but wholly uninspring beers, usually GK IPA and perhaps one other GK brew.

20 Nov 2009 14:38

The Bulls Head, Dorking

It's OK. Fair range of beers and a bar billiards table. Food menu looked good.

20 Nov 2009 14:35

The Prince Of Wales, Dorking

Went in for a couple earlier this week - still excellent. A pub as pubs once were.

The Ewe, Weston Green

A warm welcome with a choice of complementary nuts provided.
They only had 6X on and another clip turned round, so real ale isn't high on the pub's priorities.
My burger was home made and very good, but the fancy chips with their skins on were soft and greasy.
Excellent service overall, will happily visit again.

28 Oct 2009 17:43

The White Horse, Shere

Only ale on was Abbot which was in OK condition. Place felt a bit unloved.

The Prince of Wales, Shere

Having been closed for a refurb this pub is re-opening tonight and has been re-named the Wiliam Bray. Apparently it is now owned by Richard Hammond from Top Gear.

The Kings Arms, Dorking

Have been in twice in the past month and the service was much improved. The beer is reliably good here and is the most interesting range in town. The small Sussex brewery that RPadam refers to is Weltons in Horsham.

The Prince Of Wales, Dorking

I would whole-heartedly agree with the comment below made by Reasonedview

10 Feb 2009 11:57

The Royal Oak, Bookham

7 real ales -the 5 we tried were in pretty good nick.
Good food served in generous portions.
A great improvement.
Only downside is a ban on dogs, which is a great shame. Far better to only allow dogs that were well behaved rather than impose a blanket ban.

Blubeckers at Gomshall Mill, Gomshall

I don't know why this is on the site as its not a pub, but the food is good if uninspiring - standard steaks, burgers, fajitas and a truely huge menu, which is not something I favour

3 Nov 2008 16:03

The Prince Of Wales, Westcott

Drove past yesterday, there is a board outisde saying it has been refurbished.

3 Nov 2008 15:57

Crown Inn, Westcott

This certainly has the feel of a proper old pub with very friendly helpful staff and a tired interior, which is what many people find relaxing in a pub. We went there for Sunday lunch with our two young kids and had a great experience which was so different from the many family dining pubs around. Early on Sunday lunchtime there were about 6 or so other groups of people there and after leaving an hour later we had spoken to each one at some time the pub is small which encourages people to be open & friendly which is not an atmosphere you get in many pubs these days. A previous poster mentioned a club atmosphere & I can see what they mean.

Only had one beer, a Rev James which was pretty good, but Brains SA and a couple of Adnams beers were on. Shame no local beer though.

The food menu was limited but had the feel of what was freshly available at the time, the portions were generous and reasonably priced.

The landlord was very friendly and took the time to show my kids his big husky type dog which they loved.

3 Nov 2008 15:52

The Royal Oak, Rusper

An excellent pub with 7 real ales on yesterday; tried 6 all of which were in great nick.

There is a small shop at one end that stocks local produce, including fine pork pies which was very handy as food was not being served as it was a Tuesday.

22 Oct 2008 13:43

The Frog And Nightgown, Faygate

I am very pleased to report that the pub remains exactly as described below.

22 Oct 2008 13:38

The Black Horse, Gomshall

I fully endorse BeerMonsters comments although I am under the impression that Enterprise own The Compasses in Gomshall, The Price of Wales in Shere and many others locally. If so it may prove difficult to avoid Enterprise pubs, and Im not sure that Enterprise are untypical of pubcos generally.

4 Sep 2008 13:24

Blubeckers at Gomshall Mill, Gomshall

I wish to correct part of my previous comment. They currently serve London Pride and one other ale on draught. Also bottled Leffe.

4 Sep 2008 13:16

Blubeckers at Gomshall Mill, Gomshall

As Beersupper says, "this is a restaurant, not a pub." Maybe someone has been confused by the sign outside which says real ales are served - they aint, and never have been.

5 Aug 2008 10:28

The Plough, Coldharbour

Biker, relax.

At the risk of spoiling 5555s fun I think he is trying to wind up the landlady by getting more people to go in and ask for the local water. My guess is that she also refuses to serve chips on their own.

4 Jun 2008 13:41

The Black Horse, Gomshall

Come back Frank, all is forgiven!

15 Apr 2008 16:25

The William IV, Albury

Strange to say but I can agree with nearly all the differing opinions below. The pub is not at all welcoming in its design, the attitude of the staff and the regulars. That said, the food is normally good and the excellent range of beer is generally but not always in peak condition. It is a small atmospheric pub with a huge real fire that serves the local wealthy landowners and country folk well, but don't expect warm country hospitality.

25 Mar 2008 12:55

The Feathers, Merstham

In case it is of interest, below is the text of an email from Charlie the manager regarding their beer festival.

"..we are looking to raise awareness of real ales further and so are holding a real ale festival running from 17th March - 28th April. The 1st 2 weeks will focus on stout and porter, the 2nd 2 weeks on IPA's and the last 2 weeks on golden ales."

14 Mar 2008 12:17

The Duchess of Kent, Barnsbury

Had a nice pint of Sharp's Doom Bar last night which was in excellent condition. Pub has a nice feel to it

30 Jan 2008 17:34

The Kings Arms, Dorking

A lively pub with a good mix of drinkers; ales are well kept - last night had 4 on: Sharps IPA which was excellent, Archers Good Intentions, Greed King IPA & Pride, none of which I tried.

It can take a while to get served, but you can't have everything.

18 Jan 2008 16:03

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

Whatever anyone's opinions on the pub I don't think anyone can question the quality of the real ale. Drank all 3 of the Surrey Hills beers last night - all excellent as usual.

9 Jan 2008 14:26

The Star Inn, Guildford

excuse my ignorance beergibbon but what's the 'emo crowd'

15 Jun 2007 09:00

The Arbiter, Fulham

Can anybody tell me what real ale, if any, is served here as I like to drink beer in the evening.

5 Jun 2007 14:26

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

Am surprised to read Nick Davies' complaint about the food as I've always found it to be pretty good. Not surprised that the beer was spot on though.

15 May 2007 13:29

Tom Browns, Dorchester

LoungeBarNick you can now uncross your fingers the refurb is complete and in my eyes very successful. The range of Goldfinch beers is excellent with the recent addition of a fourth, the name of which escapes me.
Remember to marvel at the ancient jukebox which, mistakenly, is hidden away at the back.

15 May 2007 13:25

The Blue Raddle, Dorchester

A fine pub with a good mix of people. The Skinners(?)Doom Bar and the Dorset Brewing Company (DBC) Best were in great quality.

15 May 2007 13:20

The White Horse, Shere

CORRECTION - the pub is not closed this week, perhaps Crazy79 was thinking of another White Horse? They've only got a small garden so 56K would be going some.

12 Mar 2007 14:23

The Prince Of Wales, Dorking

Not been in, but described by CAMRA in 2005 as "A comfortable back-street local with a pool table, the beers on offer are Caledonian Deuchars IPA and Fullers London Pride. Note the opening hours 4-11pm Monday-Thursday, 3-11 Friday, 12-11 Saturday and 12-4, 7-10.30 Sunday."

5 Mar 2007 14:15

The Falkland Arms, Dorking

This is a Youngs house & looks smart from the outside, but I didn't go in.

5 Mar 2007 14:08

The Spotted Dog, Dorking

My mother-in-law says that the food is excellent, especially the Sunday roast; perhaps she was the lone lady Anonymous referred to on 25/2/07.

5 Mar 2007 14:03

The Bulls Head, Dorking

I have been told that this pub has now closed. I have not checked this out though.

5 Mar 2007 14:01

Stephan Langton Inn, Abinger Common

I can only assume that anonymous of 15 Feb is confused.
It is a actually a very typical food pub; whether or not that is a good thing depends on your personal viewpoint. I think it is a very good and correspondingly expensive restaurant with a bar attached.

I am equally surprised at the mentioning of a warm welcome at the Wotton Hatch, which is very much a family dining establishment where the beer & beer drinkers are certainly not top priority.

19 Feb 2007 15:22

The Garland, Redhill

Just the seven beers on tap last Tuesday, all well kept mind, especially the Mild & the Old

19 Jan 2007 15:34

Pub, Chilworth

They serve Greene King IPA, Abbot & Ruddles County which appear to be served direct from barrels behind the bar. A well kept pint of Ruddles and a packet of peanuts cost 3.45.

19 Jan 2007 15:06

The Keystone, Guildford

Typically 3 real ales on tap, each well kept. The food is very good. Interior more like a bar than a pub, but the atmosphere certainly qualifies it as a pub

3 Jan 2007 16:43

The Pilgrim, Dorking

A good range of beers, including Old Thumper, and a varied mix of people makes for a good atmosphere - exactly how a pub should be.

2 Oct 2006 16:25

The Black Jug, Horsham

A great range of real ale, and excellent that it is no smoking

2 Oct 2006 16:22

The Garland, Redhill

Exactly what a pub should be. A wide range of beers, excellently kept. Pleasant atmosphere with friendly staff.

Unlike BugBear I didn't find it gloomy, but I guess it is not as bright as many urban pubs. I didn't find it grubby, but I guess it is not as clean and shiny as many bars. I didn't find it smelly, but perhaps I dont have a sensitive nose. Not of any consequence but I think a 'sleeveless t-shirt' is typically called a vest.

17 Aug 2006 14:13

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

One of the best pubs in the area for real ale, currently stocking Red River, and all 3 Surrey Hills beers, including Shere Drop which has just been awarded a bronze award at this year's Great British Beer Festival.
Whilst it's of secondary importance, the food and the garden with the river running through it are also good.

17 Aug 2006 13:56

The Keystone, Guildford

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, comfortable with some sofas, terrace at the rear, but most importantly a good range of well kept ale, especially the Black Sheep.
