In the glory days when Scott and Jan ran it, this pub was the best in the area by a distance. Nosedived after they left, but seems to have been gradually improving recently. Good place to watch live sport, two decent sized rooms, each with outdoor seating.
Particularly recommended for those who enjoy being pestered every half hour by someone flogging pirate DVDs.

Always found a friendly welcome, decent beer at realistic prices for the area. For smokers and other al fresco types there is a large outside seating area.

The Cotham Porter Stores, Cotham
First visit for over a year - pleased to see little has changed.
Choice restricted to lager/cider, though Mrs Gazebo claims Doom Bar was on recently. Good atmosphere, one of the friendliest pubs in the area.
Could be biased due to winning free pint for solving fiendish puzzle on blackboard, mind.

Friendly, courteous staff, good if expensive beer - food looks good to these curious eyes, but if I wanted to pay those prices I would dine in a restaurant. Each to their own.

If it was a football team it would be Burnley. Resolutely old-fashioned, sensibly priced and oddly successful. And I'm not a Burnley fan, I just like them for the tradition they bring. So it is with this pub, two rooms, high ceilings, no-frills, decent beer at realistic prices.

The kind of boozer you might want to duck into out of the pouring rain, maybe. Old-fashioned, can be a bit cliquey, but not much wrong with that??
Poker night on Sunday, which leaves little room for everyone else, but that is a minor quibble. Friendly, cosy, decently priced.

Has reverted back to the King's Arms, sprawls over about 27 floors or something, I had one pint, at the kind of price which might have Man City's owners quizzically saying, "Er, just a half then, please..."
OK, if you like that kind of thing and enjoy paying for it.

Decent enough - beer OK if unexceptional, food good and unspectacular. Better than most of the surrounding places if you're looking for a proper pub. Must give credit to toilets - immaculate every time I have visited.
One oddity is with the staff - almost without exception they are as friendly and polite as you could want. With one exception, whose presence (or lack of) makes or breaks the quality of each visit, for this customer, anyway.

A pub which is worth seeking out, even if only for the bar billiards table. I confess I can't fathom out what beers are actually on - there is a blackboard which bears a vague resemblance to what is visible at the bar - but having numerous clips on the same handle can't help, can it? Or am I missing something?
The menu does look good, but on each of the two occasions we have arrived hungry (during advertised times), it has been mysteriously unavailable.
It has a theatre upstairs - I like that.

A pub which is far nicer on the inside than it appears from the outside. Sofas up the back for those that want them, one peculiarity is the location of the TV - only watchable from at/behind the bar. Perhaps that's why quiz prize is "One minute behind the bar(!)"
Today; Ruddles County, Spitfire, London Pride, Butcombe and Doom Bar. Average price for the area. Could have done without the irritating local radio in the background. Friendly staff.

The Three Tuns, Hotwells
What's not to like?
Here we have a guaranteed warm welcome, and our little oasis of sanity in what used to be a long, dry walk from the centre to Hotwells Road.
The beer is excellent, but for those with more specific tastes, I can recommend the forthcoming attempt to gain entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for the greatest number of Irish men named Mark in the same room. Date to be announced.
What the hell. It's good. Go there, if you like pubs.
