A popular pub in the town but it is hard to see why! A garish refurb a few years back can give you epilepsy just by looking at it, very bright and ugly!! Beer is well kept and the bar staff are extremely friendly. Has a good sized out door area which is probably its saving grace. At weekends the music is too loud to communicate with anyone in anything other than mono-syllabic grunts or sign language, this often makes ordering what you want difficult.

A typical wetherspoon pub that is in dire need of a clean up. When it first opened it was ridiculously busy all week, now due to its state of disrepair it has fallen out of favour with locals. The beer is poor quality but is cheap, I suppose you get what you pay for!! Food quality is sometimes very good particularly steaks and other grills. Not bad but by no means is it good.

A nicely presented pub and I am pleased it started a trend for more up-market venues in the town. The beer variety is OK and is reasonable quality and people should not mind paying a bit more for their drinks in a nicer venue. If you want cheap drinks sit with the winos in the crown. Gets very busy on fri/sat nights and can be a pain getting a drink due to often only having two staff behind the bar. The toilets are also ver small and there is no disabled toilet. These things detract from an otherwise very nice pub that was the start of the matlock renaissance.

Significantly improved since the refurbishment earlier this year. Beer is reasonable in terms of both quality and price. Bar staff are friendly. Bouncers are unnecessarily heavy handed on many occassions and this often makes the punters aggressive. Since it was updated there appears to be far less trouble. All in all a pleasent enough place to spend an evening drinking and enjoying yourself. Just dont upset the bouncers!!!

The Red Lion, Matlock Green
Good environment, good beer, good staff, very good pub food. Probably the best pub (not bar) in town!!
