The Sun and Doves, Camberwell

I really can't understand how come the oik at the Sun and Doves can complain and have the negative posts taken off this site to make the pub look better than it is.
Never fear, I saved a few of the negatives going back a while. :)

"Lager warm, food dull, toilets smelly. Best go for a cup of tea"

"The staff are consistently rude - the female staff obviously have a preference for serving the lads as myself and various female friends have been ignored on several occasions"

"Overpriced. Great if you think you're trendy or if money has no meaning. Food is average."

"Pseudo yuppie pub."

"Baby-Friendly", ergo full of smug punters"

"Food can be ok but overpriced and running out of food (it happens regularly), particularly on a Sunday"

"Went in on Sunday afternoon. One of the staff was wandering around talking loudly about being bored and how they should be allowed to go home. Others seemed to be just playing around. Drinks selection pretty dull, toilets blocked and poorly lit. Plenty of graffiti in there too. Probably should have said something but they way the staff were behaving I suspect there wasn't anyone in charge."

There now. Isn't it better to have a llittle balance?

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

As far as 'Petey p' is concerned, I rest my case. What a moron.

Obviously 'petey p' is one of the moronic foul mouthed cretins that the previous landlord used to attract as kindred spirits.

Just take a look at the menu and see what you actually get for your money.
10 for sausage and mash even IF the spuds are 'pedigree' from Percy Throwers own veggy patch and even IF the sausages HAVE been rolled between the inner thighs of a nubian virgin is a pisstake.

Then take a look at the wine list and compare it with the Waitrose list. A 200% mark up on wines in a top London restaurant may be excusable.
A 200% markup in a grotty Camberwell boozer with overpriced beer as well certainly is not.

This pub now is exactly as it should be. CLEAN, welcoming and friendly with a great atmosphere, great food and drinks and licensees who are prepared to work at it instead of falling around having sampled too much of their own merchandise.
To be fair, Corbett did provide increased security to the bar staff but only by blocking the bar flap with his beer belly to keep himself upright.
This pub WILL succeed and I wish the 'new' people every success. Unlike some toehrs, they certainly deserve it.

I can kind of understand why idiots like "Petey" try and bullcrap about Steve Corbetts' previous 'success' in running this pub. The fact is that being such a dirty little creep, he was lucky not to get shut down by environmental health.

An EXCELLENT pub now and I agree with the Sunday lunch, the best in the area by a Country mile. I had a few pints of Otter last week and it's beautifully kept, well worth a visit just for that. VERY well done to the new people.
I'm quite touched by the loyal support for the previous landlord Steve Corbett who single handedly turned this pub into a health hazard as detailed by the interim manager. Other than being a singularly unintelligent grotty little man with the hygiene standards of a sewer rat, the guy has as much idea how to run a pub as I do neuro-surgery.
Gone from the trade hopefully never to return.

The fact is that there's nowhere better than the GC within a 5 mile radius and it's risen from the ashes of the dirty stinking filthy dive it was before this new guy took over. Very well done.

The Lower George Inn, Gloucester

I've read some tripe in my time but "localpublichousegal" takes the biscuit with THAT load of guff, she must be the landlady.
I hadn't been to Glos for a few years but I was visiting a couple of weeks ago so I thought I'd pop in for lunch. Different people running the place now ( I remember the previous landlord was one HELL of a pool player ! ) and the new lot remind me of the Munsters only Herman is a lot shorter with a bald head and a brummy accent.
I ordered lunch with no-one else in the place and still had to wait 45 minutes for the microwave to heat up my food. It was delivered to the table by some middle aged bint, so pissed up and stinking of cheap brandy ( at 3pm !! ) that she nearly dropped it in my lap !
I went back for the evening 'session' and had to elbow myself past a load of little yobbos admiring each others mopeds and zits before I managed to get served the worst pint of Stella I've ever had in my life.
They had a band on but after a few minutes blood starting to leak from my ears, such was the volume and mediocrity of the 'music'.
This pub won an award? That's bloody amazing and is only an indictment of the rest of Gloucester. This crappy little dive wouldn't sell one pint in my home town.

This pub ROCKS now, I LOVE IT !!
AND now I don't have to wipe my feet on the way out. now the bad smell isn't the landlord any more.
