The Royal Oak, Borough

A pub worth its weight in gold. Top beer, clientele mainly professionals and white collar employees. Food good, beware the booby trap boiled egg in the fish pie though!

The Bat and Ball, Brighton

Site is sadly being abused by the likes of "Smif", the review of 24/9/07 should be ignored. Bat & Ball is an ordinary, pub enjoyed by straight, gay, black, white, young and old alike, and may it stay that way!

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Big festival-suited pub with a lot of promise.

The Pineapple, Kentish Town

I found staff ok but pub has turned a little cliquey. A word of warning, be very careful about leaving your bike outside the pub. The problem lies with the area, not the pub, but my cycle was knocked over during an attempt to pinch someone else's.

Also, ice is handled into drinks sometimes, but the beer (London Pride) remains good.

The Cornubia, Bristol

Is this really the Cornubia that people have been in recently? Can't believe it - I went in there at the beginnin of last year and could recommend it with a 10/10 - Sadly I didn't know about this site then, and haven't been in Bristol for a while now. There IS (and I know there is!) another good pub nearby called the Bridge Inn (or Bridge Tavern?) a small pub which is more welcoming when you go in. I shall have to try this pub out again as I simply can't believe it's met up with such a disaster :-(

The Old Oak, Gospel Oak

I went to this pub one evening last week durin the Chelsea-Portsmouth match. Although not mentioned in Lee's comments here, the pub has a reputation for bein a bit unfriendly, and used to attract a racist element from the estate nearby. I heard a woman (about 60, sitting at the bar) talk to a coloured guy who walked in for a pint in a very condescending manner, but didn't think it was in my interests to intervene.

There is London Pride here, but I didn't even get round to askin for it as it ran out when someone else asked for a pint.

The pub is in a traditional building, but falls short of bein overtly welcoming to newcomers. I was treated courteously, but its quite clear who everyone's "friends" are.

Someone in the pub said the management has changed recently and it is slowly becoming more friendly - I'll probably review it in a few months.

Lee should pop in again. It's not quite like the other pubs he recommends

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

GREAT place! Only slite gripe is the beers are kept at 14 degrees instead of 12 which just takes the edge off them a little, otherweise its amongst Londons top pubs.
