The Blue Anchor Inn, Teignmouth
Its all been said already, still the best pub in town!

Has a large patio area right on the beach, great place for a summer afternoon, Shaldon Ferry stops nearby. Has a number of real ales.

Fine pub in pleasant location, could easily while away a sunny afternoon here, beer OK.

Only had time for a quick pint of the excellent Flatcapper on a recent visit. Beautiful building, the interior reminds me of a hotel lounge bar from years ago, (and none the worse for that!). The sort of place you might take a foreign visitor to show them something a bit different. Reading about it's ups-and-downs I hope that this time it manages to prosper!

The Criterion, Weston Super Mare
Definitely agree with the previous comment, one of the best real ale pubs in Weston, if not the best, and earns its place in the Good Beer Guide on merit.
Don't agree with Mighty1 regarding the lighting, most people find it on the dim side if anything! I think some of the furniture has been replaced recently, and while its on the old side it does the job. God forbid it gets replaced with the horrible high tables and stools the more trendy places seem to go for these days!

Had a surprisingly good pint of Bombardier, otherwise same as a Yates's anywhere, good place to watch football, lots of screens. Seems popular with groups of young women. Good service from friendly staff.

The Cabot Hotel, Weston Super Mare
Closed, waiting to be turned into a Weatherspoons,

The Britiannia Inn, Weston Super Mare
Has recently re-opened following complete referb. Now more a bar than a pub, though there was one real ale available, all high tables and stools, not to my taste, but at least its open!

The pub itself is great, as is the range of beers and ciders, the only fly in the ointment is the old boy behind the bar, who is a miserable, humourless s**.

Jack Stamps, Weston Super Mare
The sign outside says Real Ale, and there are three hand-pumps on the bar, but none of them were dispensing anything when I went in. The barman was unconcerned, and the place had a rather unpleasant atmosphere. One to be avoided in my view.

The Raglan Arms, Weston Super Mare
Only two ales on and both poor, not impressed at all , pool room with no pool table!

The Major from Glengarry, Weston Super Mare
Its been closed the last couple of times I've been past, anyone know if this is permanent?

The Criterion, Weston Super Mare
Excellent little pub, worth walking up the hill for! Surprised its not in the Good Beer Guide, certainly deserves to be. Friendly crowd and first rate governor.

The Regency, Weston Super Mare
Bigger than it looks from the outside, comfortable grown-ups pub, with a good selection of real ales, (which is unusual for Weston). I would recommend it, and I'm surprised its not in the Good Beer Guide.

Went here on a cold night in January, pub was FREEZING, with no discernable heating on. Only three real ales available, (one with no pump clip). Not impressed, the Liberty Bounds on the other side of the bridge is a much better 'spoons in my view.

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich
Beautiful, traditional looking pub. Sparkling clean, (including the toilets), first rate Fullers beers. The pub has a number of rooms on different levels, and is larger than it first appears. There are tables outside at the front, but at the back is a beautiful sunken garden and smoking area. All in all a little gem, and in the middle of nowhere too! Its a ten minute walk from North Greenwich station, or a bus ride from Greenwich proper.
Im sure my ex-colleagues who are moving to new offices nearby will enjoy many a pint here!

Three gleaming, traditional bars plus conservatory and patio. This is a gem of a pub, and the customers seem to be ordinary people, not all Canary Wharf suits! The food is good, service is good, the beer is good, and a special mention about the hanging baskets etc at the back, they look great, (see photos above). Long may The George prosper; it is an example to all Publicans, and Pub companies, this is what a pub should be like!

Splendid, spacious, unspoilt pub with good range of real ales. Pray that some greed head doesn't get hold of it and turn it into yet another trendy restaurant.

This is true. An american tourist came up to us and asked if the pub had been named after the game! Pleasent enough multi-level pub, with real ale.

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping
Pub was very quiet on a recent visit, but I suppose no more than is to be expected on a Monday afternoon in February. Had a really nice pint of Broadside, the staff were fine, and I enjoyed the traditional interior, and the views of the river.

FOOD AND SOFT DRINKS ON:Y. Suggest that anyone contemplating a visit checks before they go. For several weeks now they have had a sign in the window saying that because of "Licensing Issues" they are not able to serve alcoholic drinks.

Pub has now been completely demolished, I think to make way for an extension.to the DLR.

Used to be the Lord Burleigh and was a better pub when it was. Has as much character as a MFI showroom.

The Archduke Restaurant and Wine Bar, Waterloo
They have done a really good job here of making the space within a couple of railway arches interesting and comfortable. There are multiple levels, with a full service restaurant on the upper level, and snacks available everywhere else.
Its very much a bar/restaurant, not a pub, but they do have draught Paulanner at 3-60. a pint.
The staff are friendly and the service excellent, all in all a very pleasent place to while away a couple of hours.

The staff are always huddled together at one end of the bar, completely oblivious to anyone requiring service. They dont use optics, but use a small metal measure which they never fill up, which is a bit of a cheek, when a pint of Kronenberg and a large G&T is over a tenner.
The real problem is that there is no competition, if there was a halfway decent traditional pub within walking distance then this place would be empty, but unfortunately there isnt.!

Pretty good pub, has a couple of largish TVs, but NO SKY, shame. Nice pint of Deuchars.
6 Sep 2008 21:53
It is a bit run down, but not excessively so. Friendly staff and Landlord, and the Tinners is the best pint in Looe in my opinion. Much better than the Swan up the road, with it's fake hand pumps.
17 Aug 2008 18:12
WARNING TO FAMILIES, THIS PLACE IS NOT CHILD FRIENDLY. Neither a pub, nor a restaurant, (when were you last forced to listen to a loud radio tuned to an Oldies station in a restaurant?) Run by a tattooed twit from Essex who seems to hate children. Best avoided.

The Forest Inn, Princetown
Spacious country pub/restaurant with plenty of character. Good beer, good food and good service, what more could you ask for!
