The Nightingale, Wanstead

i feel i have to wade in here too.

i'm not noel, but know who the guy is and i always found him friendly and approachable. he always would say hello to me and the wife. the bar staff's grasp of english was always fine, communication was never a problem. they work hard, they're efficient and they're friendly. what more do you want. some east london scrag screeching "yeah, wot do you want to drink, innit"?

it remains the best pub in the area by a long long way. sadly i think gigalo has another agenda here.

The Old Rep, Ipswich

the only thing stopping this dive from being the worst pub in ipswich (and therefore propbably the world) is Yates' up the road.

and that's the only thing. absolute hole of a pub populated by the worst of chavdom with crap, loud dance music blaring out at a volume that will make your fillings rattle. choose the old rep & lose the will to live.

The Dove, Ipswich

lots and lots of beer. the choice is boggling and the staff are more than happy to oblige with tasters.
sadly the excellence of the dove comes at a price, and that's it's incredible popularity. a great pub to visit when it's not so busy, however during busy periods you may find yourself thinking of going elsewhere.

still it remains one of the best pubs in ipswich.

The Black Horse Inn, Ipswich

could be a lot nicer. lovely old building from the outside however once inside it's a big disappointment. beer doesn't seem to be well looked after but do the good looking barmaids make up for it?

pop in for a visit and you'll see what i mean.

cannot agree with stallywag's bizarre comments below. perhaps he's confusing it with the duke up the road? the nightingale is by far the best pub in the area. i've always found the bar staff very friendly, the beer is well kept (especially the Doom Bar), the food excellent and reasonably priced.

i regularly used this boozer when i lived in the area and loved every visit. the only gripe i ever had were the miserable buggers at the end of the bar who thought they owned the gaff. still, you can't have everything. long may the nightingale continue.

The Town of Ramsgate, Wapping

a nice pub. although not a regular visitor i've always enjoyed myself there. well looked after beer and i've always found the chaps behind the bar very friendly.

food is basic but freshly prepared, proper pub lunches. and the (small) terrace on the river is nice in the warm weather. probably the best pub in the area.

Thomas More, Wapping

A poor excuse for a pub.

Poorly trained bar staff who cannot cope when the pub is busy (i.e. lunch times and after work, in an area surrounded by offices). Beer badly looked after which is very very warm in the summer. Loud music blaring out and badly maintained toilets.

Oh and almost everything on the menu is deep-fried. Do yourself a favour and get some exercise by taking a stroll to the town of ramsgate where you'll have a much better pub experience.
