Lovely old fashioned pub. Black and White beams on the exterior, mostly stone decor on the interior. Beware the low ceilings and beams and the slightly bumpy passageway. A pub that must be visited for historical reasons if nothing else.
The beer is alright, rarely anything really special and the quality is sometimes lacking. The food however is fantastic and if you are hankering after a mixed grill or nice piece of steak this is the place.

A comfortable and friendly pub. Very much on the route of some of Derby's better pub crawls (between The Flowerpot and Ye Olde Dolphin) The beer is always decent quality and there is a nice range. Only problem comes from the inability to escape when you've just ordered a pint, the live music starts and it's just not your thing!

I visited the pub with family on a Sunday evening and it was by far the busiest pub in the area and with good reason. A cozy and friendly feeling means that strangers are made to feel very welcome by both staff and customers. A lovely range of ales varying from pale and light to dark ruby and heavy means that there is something for all tastes. We were also amazed to see the vast list of malt whiskies on the chalk board. The pub is made up of several different rooms, some larger than others - I recommend a visit to the small snug by the door which seats around 4 people and gives them access to a small bar.
The service was quick and polite, so all in all no complaints - a thoroughly enjoyable evening and a new favourite pub!

A nice pub to visit with friendly staff and regulars. Abbott and Pedigree served from the jug plus another five or six handpumps (i think!). Always something on that I fancy and it is always great quality. Westons Old Rosie scrumpy is also a favourite up there!
Paved stone flooring and I would advise people to take a glance at some of the signs and pictures adorning the walls as many of them are interesting and amusing.
Also, in agreement to the earlier mention of seats by the fireplace I usually avoid them no matter how cold I am when I first arrive!
