Heard today that the licence is up for review. That could well mean that the place could close soon, especially if the local MP is involved? Sorry that the GI has got to this point, but the locals should have supported it more, instead of letting the"Cider Tin Boys" taking over!

Talbothill is right about this place except that it HAS followed the Pilgrim's example and has run out of draught beer etc. Only bottles on the last visit, so will be staying away from here until it gets sorted. Local idiots also seem to be back here, so beware!

Starting to look like the only "up-together" pub in the area?
KIngs Arms is too clicky and the White Hart is nothing more than a tip nowadays. Going to be the Pilgrim for me if I'm in the Village?

Re: Free Tap Water...
The DO have to supply Tap Water if requested.
Have a word with the City Council Licensing Office who will tell you that they SHOULD be displaying a notice "Free tap water available on request". Pub over Briz way had a visit and got ticked off for it.

The Langton Court Hotel, St Anne's
Tried the re-opened Pilgrim: too dark and expensive. Bloomfield: Too noisy and can't get served. Chinese nearby, so the Langton had to do instead. At least you can get served here and see what's going on.

The Bloomfield Inn, Arno's Vale
Too noisy last night so went to the Langton Court up the road. Bit clicky there, but better that having to shout.

Been in and the place is better. No local numpties when I called in and like the Stella advert, "reassuringly expensive". At least the tins of Natch have gone? On the down side, it's dark and dingy inside as it's been painted using the same pot of paint they used on the outside of the White Hart. Someone told me the food starts next week? Chip shop for now I suppose?

Glutton for punishment me - This time no Courage Best, just the fizzy John Smiths. Off to the Kings Arms next time I think?

cider23 and imbibers have got valid points, but this place has not been worth going into since whoever was running it let all the idiots back in.
OK, everyone in Briz knows who broke the windows, but why not get the temporary panels replaced with glass? Who in their right mind wanted to go in with it looking as it does?
Then there are the stories of having to go to the Offy up the road to get the Natch in. Sorry, I'm not going back, or my mates.
We saw this place re-open once too many times and then turn back into a Daz/Aerial fuelled house just like the Forresters in WoT. The stories about that pub are very similar to the way the Pilgrim has gone.

The Bloomfield Inn, Arno's Vale
Came here after a trip to the Black Castle down the road which only had fizzy beer. This place seems OK, but you don't know whether it's open cos the front door is shut. The Brains beer was what I went for, but it was a bit expensive at 2.70.
Young lad that served me looked like he'd just got out of bed and was more interested in shaking his leg and playing on his phone than serving the others that were waiting.
The garden looks a right mess, so I won't be bring the kids here, especially if it's wet. This place may have a CAMRA entry, but it looks tatty at the front and three scrap cars on the front. Fag ends everywhere by the entrance too - Filthy!

The Langton Court Hotel, St Anne's
Blue baize on the pool table, matches the Glasgow Rangers colours. The lounge bar is painted orange!

Better here now and apart from the lack of real ale, it's really good for food. The prices are a bit cheaper than the other local pubs and considerably cheaper that the posh places like Bocabar and the Thunderbolt. Not my sort of place in years gone by, but well worth a visit, certainly if you want a good meal.

Plod was outside here big time last Saturday lunchtime. I'll follow Fromage Bloke to the Castle I think!

Looks like the lunatics have taken over the asylum?
Bald bloke seems to have disappeared and someone else is running the place.

New bloke in the chair, but the same old problems are still here. If it's been sorted, WHY are bouncers needed on a weekend? Strikes me the bloke wants to leave the pop alone if he's running the place!

Looks even worse since 7 windows were smashed by a local nutter. Still the same idiots using the place with the same old problems!
27 Jun 2009 11:46
The White Hart has changed hands yet again with another couple running the place. Still looks stark, with no spirits on display in the bar and every part of the place looking very grubby indeed. Notice on the ladies toilet in the lounge stating it's out of order. Still looks like it's up for sale too!

Joan_Crawford was right, it is local again and they got Alexei Sayle to look after the bar.

Handy place this, what with the nearby NatWest and Post Office as well as the other nearby shops. The Abbot Ale was good and the food I ordered was perfect. Certainly worth another visit.

Visited here before 10am and found the place surprisingly busy. Cider and a JDW breakfast is an interesting idea, but not something I would do on a regular basis.

Just heard that the Black Castle is going to re-open on 19th May with kids allowed in during the daytime and food on offer. Signs on the main road have been changed in the last week advertising the food and Sky sports etc. Just hope the Pilgrim lot dont go in here and spoil it?
18 May 2009 14:22
Tried the nearby Pilgrim Inn, got the same problems in here too. New bloke behind the bar dont know who was barred, so all the Pilgrim lot are in here as well. The boots screwed to the ceiling in the bar are still there with no attempt to remove them. Daz/Ariel activities in the toilets probably going on here as well when landlord blokey not around? This used to be a nice place sorry not any more!
14 May 2009 22:56
Dont go here
This is a NASTY pub and the landlord has ended up allowing all the idiots that are barred from every other pub in the area to drink here, or use the toilets in groups. Just hope the police get their finger out and see what goes on in there? I left before I needed to use the toilet.
The only good thing about this place is that theres a For Sale sign outside, so it may end up as flats like the other closed pubs in Bristol.

The Hunters Rest, Clutton
Went here on Saturday night for a get-together and meal. Went via the lane from Chelwood Bridge, and after all the recent heavy rain we'd had, the water was a bit deep in places.
Otter Ale was great until it ran out (the place was very busy) so went on the Butcombe Bitter, which was excellent, as was the food.
Certainly worth a visit.
