Battled in through the snow yesterday at about 12:10 to find that along with a pensioner who entered at the same time as us we were the first customers of the day. So thanks to the weather it's the first time I've been in and had a pick of the seats. Pleasant barman who gave me the extra half pint of lager he'd pulled in error - 'It would just get chucked away otherwise'.
Was pleased to see custom pick up later as some of the regulars appeared to have braved the journey into work despite the warnings.
Still one of my favourite London pubs.

Really like this pub but I'd find it difficult to tell you why. Found by accident last year at six on a Saturday evening late in October after leaving the Seckforde Arms - which I was supposed to have liked more than I did. The Seckforde that night unfortunately was as dead as they come and I felt (unusually) a bit out of place. After leaving early and with time to kill I popped in here and the difference couldn't have been greater. Struggled to find a seat with loads of people in the 'back room' playing board games, plenty of life. Felt right. Felt comfortable. Brought my wife in the following night, something I don't normally do (visit a pub twice in the same London trip - not take the wife out!) and although it was after ten on a Sunday night was still lively. Returned again this month and the place is definetly growing on me. Nice one.

The Old Bank of England, Fleet Street
Agree with the general comments on here, attractive decor, does remind you of the Counting House, good for a quick visit but wouldn't remain for more than a swift one...
....but this place was made for me on our last visit when we actually saw a bloke in a Bowler hat!!

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street
Hadn't been here for at least 15 years and then it had been summer and my wife and I had to stand outside in the alley. Glad we visited again earlier this month. Won't be 15 years before our next visit.

Visited as part of my annual birthday pilgrimage to London. Visited early Monday lunchtime and there were only 3 other punters so had our choice of booths.
Great trip which saw us go from here to Ye Old Mitre, The Jerusalem Tavern, The Princess Louise as our next 3 pubs.

Any news on whether the Princess Louise did in fact re-open yesterday as was suggested in a previous post? Hoping to visit again in 4 weeks time!

Quite quiet when we were in early on Sunday lunchtime. Nice pub though.

We were in early Sunday lunchtime prior to our trip to Wembley Stadium for the NFL match. Was very quiet. Nice pub though. Recommended.

Must admit it's years since I've been in here (2000?) but just read in the papers that it's just had a mouse infestation??

The Horse and Groom, Belgravia
Finally visited when it was open and to be frank I expected a lot more. Visited around 2 on Monday afternoon and there were only 3 other people there. It is situated in a nice place and I can imagine it being nice sat outside with a pint during summer. But sat inside in February it didn't really do anything for me.

Visited about one o'clock last Monday afternoon. Very quiet so got a seat near the fire. Mr. M was on very friendly form chatting to all his guests especially an american gentleman who was lapping the place up. Top hour, beer was fine and my wife really enjoyed the draught cider (Aspall's ?). Was as good an hour as I've ever spent on licensed premises. One of my favourite pubs!

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden
A watering place fit for a Timelord (as proven by bumping into ex Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy last time we were in here)

Nice attractive pub. Handy after a visit to the Museum of London.

Nice pub for a pint in after a bit of culture at the Sir John Soane Museum just around the corner on Lincolns Inn Fields.

The Churchill Arms, Kensington
First time in after years of threatening was last week on a dull and wintry February lunchtime. Got all the way there and thought at first it was closed as there were no hanging baskets outside and workers sanding down window frames etc. Thankfully the pub WAS open and it shot straight into my top 10 pubs ANYWHERE. If it's lost atmosphere recently due to the popularity of the the thai food making it more of a dining experience then it must have been something really exceptional before. Go. Experience. Enjoy.

St Stephens Tavern, Westminster
Very neat and tidy pub, with nice selection of Badger Ales. Looks enormous when approaching from Westminster Underground but only 2 tiny rooms (unless there's an upstairs). I liked it.

Sorry but no. Just not our type of place at all. Too pretentious by half. One swift drink and we headed for The Mason's Arms.

The Grouse and Claret, Belgravia
Wouldn't know - it was closed this Sunday lunchtime when we tried to visit.

The Pantechnicon Rooms, Knightsbridge
Decent attractive pub (but what was with all the chillies?). Very quiet when we were there (Sunday Lunchtime). Lacking in atmosphere when compared to the nearby Nags Head and Grenadier but it had one great advantage over other nearby pubs like the Grouse & Claret and Horse & Groom in that it WAS actually open when we wanted a drink.

This isn't a "proper pub" - it's a Davy's Wine Bar with only Davy's Wallop Bitter and Davy's 1870 Lager on draught but it's not that bad a place. We only popped in on Monday afternoon to check on the status of the final Ashes test (door was open and we saw people clapping) so circumstances might not exactly be typical of the place, but half a dozen people in the tiny 'bar' area cheering on Kevin Pietersen didn't do it any harm at all.
PS loved the crazy flourescent psychadelic pavement outside. Groovy.

Neat tidy and attractive pub. Called in last Monday afternoon round about 3:30 for a quick jar and to check on the status of the final Ashes test to find the place empty barring an old bloke with a pint mug on a stool right in front of the telly. "If we're still in at close of play tonight I think we stand a chance" says the old bloke. Had to explain that as it was the last day of the test we stood a very good chance. "Oh! Why don't the bloody Aussies concede then? Sky'll ruin this when they get their hands on it!". Repeated the same refrain exactly to a couple of suits who followed us in later. Bless him!
Deserves more custom (just don't think a lot of people know it's there). We'll go back.

Closed on Sunday afternoon, so head for the Nags Head or Grenadier

Very fine, smart pub. Immaculately decorated and furnished but still with enough atmosphere to be a pub rather than a bar. Great choice of beers and lagers - I had draught Budvar and at a reasonable price too....my wife liked the place too. Great stuff!

The Lord Raglan, Middlesbrough
This pub is no more. Became Huxters (see seperate entry) in 1998 and even more recently Trader Jacks.

How this marvellous pub has only managed it's current rating (6.5 by 17 punters) is totally beyond me. Wonderful place. Used to confuse me that the pub sign outside whilst showing a horse's head displayed the name The Kevin Moran but I believe that was/is the Landlord's name.

Finally found this pub after many attempts over the years (mind I've probably been very, very drunk at the time) and thank goodness it didn't disappoint!!
Down an alley and easily missed (look for the sign like a blue Bishop's Mitre on the lampost)
Sadly places like this are becoming the exception...... a preservation order should be slapped on it immediately, making it illegal to change or deface the place in any way (and on the Red Lion, Crown Passage)

Lovely looking back bar. In at the weekend and got a booth to ourselves. Stove fire was very very hot and much appreciated. Good show.

The Two Brewers, Covent Garden
What a nice boozer (bit like me!). Popped in on the off chance on a walk in the area and was suitably impressed. Will visit again.

The Bree Louise, Euston
If you are a real ale connosieur then I would heartily recommend a visit - if (like me) you aren't then really the pub is decidedly average - sorry. Hadn't been in since Jolly Gardeners incarnation and think I preferred it then. There is more to a Pub than it's choice of beers and there was nothing about the Bree Louise that would inspire my wife to suggest a return visit.
