The New Inn, Coldingham

After a long closure (most of 2008) this pub has reopened under new management and reverted to its old name of The New Inn. I'm pleased to report that the real ale has been retained on two handpulls which to date have had only Scottish beers from the likes of Inveralmond, Stewart and Harviestoun on them and this is served in good condition. However for many people the main focus of this pub is the food. A menu of "favourites" is complimented by a few specials, often featuring seafood from nearby Eyemouth. Fresh local produce is used extensiveley and nearly evrything is prepared on the premises.

The Craw Inn, Auchencrow

Note: The Craw is in the village of Auchencrow not as stated in Eyemouth, which is several miles away.

Decepively sized pub in very small village enjoying a good repuration for both beer and food. Not only off the beaten track, but off the track that comes off that! Holds a beer festival which is well worth a visit.

The New Inn, Coldingham

Unremarkable but friendly local, also popular with regular holidaymakers. The main bar (to your right as you enter) has basic but comfortable enough furnishings, a TV often used to catch up on the days racing reslults adn a collection of water jugs around the room. There is no piped music although occasionally CDs of a radio are played quietly behind the bar but the main sound is conversation and friendly banter. No real ales are stocked. The upstairs bar (to your left as you enter) is used for karaoke at weekends.

The Armoury, Shrewsbury

I had two of the nicest pints I've had all year here, one after the other (Outlaw APA - brewed for The Armoury, and Dent Delightfully Dark). It will be so good to see this place go no-smoking as the beer and food will taste even better!

The Anchor Inn, Shrewsbury

Visited during the Shrewsbury Folk Festival when the pub was very busy, being on the route between the festival site and the main campsite. Friendly staff and a lively atmosphere, although the beer (two handpulls) wasn't much to write home (or here) about. Food was substantial and tasty.

The Barrels Alehouse, Berwick upon Tweed

One of only two pubs I've deen someone videoing the interior of (the other being The Guildford Arms in Edinburgh). The change of management late last year brought little change to this well loved gem. A no-smoking lounge has been introduced and the music policy has changed a bit (moving away from americana) but it's still a very enjoyable place to while away the hours. An impressive aray of different drinks, uncluding usually five well kept real ales (mostly the usual suspects - London Pride, Landlord, Spitfire - but occasional showings from micros, although strangely not often local ones).

Leaping Salmon, Berwick upon Tweed

Standard Wetherspoon pub. Generally uninspiring, but nothing particularly "wrong" with it either, other than a tendancy to serve short measures of beer! Can get busy with shoppers having meals (has usefully large family area) and a younger, noisier crowd weekend evenings. Impressive view over the River Tweed, but the front and outdoor drinking area looks on to an unpicturesque road. Usually five or more real ales on in reasonable condition.
