Having moved out of Reading I do miss this old place, not the cleanest or best staff (especially the interfering female manager) however cheap beer and footie & pool. Good place to meet up with friends and just have few pints.

And Tammy, the Clarence hasnt closed, its got new management and been renamed The Bloated Mallard, very very expensive in there now, I went in with the other half and bought two bottles of Bulmers 17 and got 50p change from a tenner!!

I was extremely sad when I heard about the demise of this place. I have spent a lot of happy and enjoyable nights there and have very fond memories of the place including my sisters wedding reception there back in 2005 and my daughters christening party in 2006, real family pub where every one knew each other. Shame its a KFC now, seems almost criminal.

After going to this pub for many years on & off, this is certainly a more mature pub to go to, Its ok if you fancy a nice relaxed drink however unlike years ago the place can become far too overcrowded at nights now and the fight through the stools at the bar can become tiring after a while. The staff are a bit hit and miss with one in particular has often been short with me. I do prefer the staff and the general feel of the place about 10 years ago I must say hence my dwindling frequent visits.

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer
I do miss this place!! I even traveled frequentley with my then two young girls on the bus as it was a lovely place to be, met some decent folk too including Lionel and Julie who even insisted on slicing the cheese for my youngests cheese baguettes rather than grate to save the mess on the floor!! Always a warm welcome and many a boozy night. Was sad to see this place go.
