Fairly large pub open to non-residents. The food was reasonable in terms of both quality and price. A good selection of local beers, including Coniston Bluebird.
Downstairs is a sprawling cellar bar that stays open late (by Ambleside standards at least) with music. There are also a couple of handpumps downstairs.

A bit of a "foodie" place; you can go just to drink, but the pub is at its busiest at lunch and dinner time. The food was good but the portions were not exactly enormous. Quite a large pub with wooden tables and chairs; not exactly cosy, but a good place for groups. Beer-wise, they serve Coniston Bluebird plus two changing guests, all of which were in good condition on our visit.

The Marquis, Covent Garden
M&B sold it outright, as far as I'm aware, one of a number of good pubs they put up for sale at the same time. This used to be a nice place to go to for some decent beer, but they seem to be trying to appeal to the lager crowd now a fickle bunch at the best of times.
But I'm relieved that it's still a pub because I feared the worst after its closure. It's hopefully only a matter of time before a more enlightened landlord comes along and improves the beer selection and gives it its proper name back. For the time being though, I'll be in the Harp or Ship & Shovell.
