Started to have the occasional beer here on a Sunday evening. The larger seems to have improved, either that my taste buds are now shot ;-). Not a bad experience, not too busy and a good , polite and quick service. Shame it shuts so dead on 10:30.

This pub seems to be on the up. A good place to drink on a Friday night with your mates. If you get the right barstaff serving you it's a good experience. Larger usually good but the bitters have a tendance to run out too quick.

Went and saw Jinn house play here the other week. Had a great night. The band was everything you want out of a 'pub' band. Wll definitely go and see them again. The lager was very acceptable. The only downsides are the odd occasions of poor service and the uncertainty of the closing time. Seem to want to shut quickly if it is a quiet night, or spent too much time on their mobiles rather than serve

Oh dear, Oh dear, what a prime location and great building gone to waste. Fairly empty most nights for what was once Carshaltons premium pub. Beer no longer the quality it once was, service still very iffy. Still gets packed for the footie but clears out very quick afterwards.

Unfortunately going down hill fast, there seems to be no leadership or hand on the tiller now. Far too much live music and singing for a pub of this size. The young bar man still keeps his eye on the beer quality and there is still a good mix of punters on the good days.

Had a good beer there on Saturday. Did not seem at all 'clickly' but that might just be the time of day I was there. The 2 mates I was with went through the range of bitters and found them all spot on. Not over keen on the decor, reminded me too much of old Jacks steak house up town ( a truely great place, he will be v much missed, RIP). The Carling was very acceptable. Shame it's a bit out of the way if you are going by train. Will definitely be making a return.

Had a quick half on the way to a funeral. Made welcome at lunchtime and had a good pint of beer.

A decent little pub, with good beer. Let down by the opening hours.

Very interested in ibeer's comments. Very much inline with my recent experience. Great shame if the food has gone down the pan, it was one of Carshalton's undiscovered gems. Used to eat there often, with no complaints. Not interested in music at this place at weekend's, place too small. Not a bad pint of beer, i agree with the comments about the staff. A smile goes a long way, especially, in these fincially troubled times. Strange cloing times at the weekend.

Oh dear, Oh dear, Youngs have really mesed up the finest pub in the village. How much would they be willing to pay to get back John/Judy, the Heggies, etc, even the old colonal (bless him). Service is rubbish (16 bar staff - 14 punters and still waited ages for service (one poor girl had to stop eating on her lunch break to serve me)). Why they do not have Gary working the Swan bar more often amazes me as much as the fact the Swan is rarely open. It seems that the pub has gone further down hill in line with the Windsor improving. As they say, with the current Young' pricing policy, the Duke and Plough must be wetting themselves with laughter!
ps, do a bit of grovelling and you might get one of their discount cards ;-)

I do have to admit a soft spot for this pub. Experienced staff, quick service, no favouritism while waiting. A good mix of locals (esp. now that the problem punters have gone). Pricing very competitive and the young(ish) barman takes great pride in the quality of the beer. Main problems are the Friday/Saturdy night music, the running out of beer and lager and the concentrated drive to please the lunchtime crowd at the expense of the evening crowd. Cannot help thinking that there are too many hands at the management 'pump'.

Popped in a few times the last few weeks. Very busy on a Friday, although it did clear out. Am aware of some of the comments concerning the 'senior' managemen team but have never experienced it myself. Garden at lunch time in the sun is very good. The lager was of questionable taste, chatted to mates and they agree that it was not my taste bud.

GBN's comments are still very valid. It some times appears that the bar staff enjoy bottling up much more than serving customers. That said, they do not hassle you at closing time. The pricing policy, as with all Young's pubs in this area, is disgusting. At times the pub is very empty. How Young's share price is holding up still fills me with wonderment! All said and done, it still knocks spots off of the Greyhound.

Still enjoying a pint here. They serve the best pint of Youngs compared to the other Youngs houses i use. (have not tried the Plough since the old manager returned. Hearing lots of positive comment tho'). Terrible rumour going around at the moment that they want to convert it into a Greyhound style pub. Don't Youngs ever learn! If they do it wil be the end of this good pub. Bar staff much quicker on the service front these days and still adult about drinking up time. Overall, I dont object to the prices in this establishment as much as I do at the Greyhound
