The Old Anchor, Twickenham

"thepubcritic" is obviously a complete cretin; his assessment of the staff here is totally wrong and will give you a very inaccurate mental picture of this pub. The landlord here is one of the friendliest publicans I have ever met and his wife always goes out of her way to make us feel welcome whenever we visit. This used to be our local when we lived in Twickenham and we still make the effort to come back regularly since moving away because of the great food (Sunday lunch especially), friendly service and lovely garden. This is a hidden jewel of a pub - it's busy enough for a good atmosphere but you can usually get a table - perfect for a lazy afternoon. It's also a great stop if you are crawling from Twickenham to Richmond - I'd certainly recommend it over the nearby Crown. If you are looking for a nice pub on a Rugby day with a good atmosphere but without the usual maul at the bar, this is the place to be.

INDO, Whitechapel

Great little pub with interesting art on the walls that changes weekly, top choices of Belgian beer and friendly staff. Can get loud at the weekends, but what do you expect given the location. My only grumble is the loos - they are truly disgusting and prevent me from wanting to try the very well-regarded food. If the loos are like that, what's the kitchen like?

The Archers, Whitechapel

"however I can assure you that the locals are friendly and will make you feel welcome"

Not universally the case; some of the crack heads can get quite lary.

The Honor Oak, Honor Oak

This is an extremely friendly, welcoming and charming local pub that has been renovated to an attractive and cozy modern decor. The drinks are first rate and although I have yet to try the food, it looks great. We are looking to move to the area and having such a nice local nearby was a significant factor in our decision.
