Pearsons Arms, Crab And Oyster House, Whitstable
In Whitstable again 15 May 2008. Walked in The Pearsons and apart from myself only half a dozen others in BUT what a change from my last visit....
Two Barmen behind the bar and by the time they had negotiated between them which one of them was going to serve me it took 7 mins!
Short drink and away. Grrr!

The Royal Naval Reserve, Whitstable
Visited late afternoon, 15 May 2008. A small number of regulars in and a good pint of Sheps Master Brew. Nice and relaxing.

Well you cant say I wont give a place the benifit of doubt.
Visited late afternoon 15 May 2008. No dogs, in fact no customers save for a nice lady who served up an acceptable pint of Master Brew. I noticed that this Pub has and serves Sheps Mild. Worth the visit.

Pearsons Arms, Crab And Oyster House, Whitstable
On the Whitstable jaunt again and in need of food and drink. Now this is Bank Holiday Sunday ( 4 May 2008 ) 7.30 pm. The Pearsons was packed but served very quickly with a very acceptable two pints of Gadds number 5. Upatairs to the restraunt just in case a table might be available (yes, I know this is Bank Holiday Sunday ). Very well presented, polite and helpful lady appologised that there was no availability for a table. BUT she immediatly gave me a card with details of two other nearby reatraunts, one of which a table was secured for later in the evening.
The Pearsons, Good all round. Must get there again soon when its not so busy. 8/10

The Yard was formally The Prince Albert which had two bars one down and one upstairs. The upstairs bar was used for functions as well as overspill for downstairs. Many a happy leaving do spent in the upstairs bit.
Todays, The Yard is too pricey and glaringly pretend part of the Old Brewery! Although if my memory serves me right The Albert was sort of the "Front Room " of the Old Brewery.

Visited "The Wall Tavern" quite a few times in July/August 07. This pub has lost it for me Im afraid.
Non smoking has resulted in "a shack" being errected right outside the pub frontage. Im not against smoking or not in pubs BUT for Gods sake "The Wall" has a big garden, so why on earth spoil the Pubs frontage (a nice building in Middle Wall) with the errection of a "shabby shack" ?
Having said that Fullers has been up to scratch.
Please have a think about the "Shack" it doesnt do the Pub justice.

Pearsons Arms, Crab And Oyster House, Whitstable
Visited on Monday 13 August 2007 and after my previous visits here had a suprise! The interior has been "re-vamped" and I must admit for the time it took to enjoy a good couple of pints of Gadds my first immpressions of the make over changed from one of " God - what have they done" to "Yes - I like it". Staff smart and on the ball and although The Pearsons now appears to be more of a Lager and Cocktail kind of place for Whitstable, it does it for me!

Re-visited 18 April and a contract to my last visit. Both Spatfire and Master Brew up to scratch and the company was good. Only one dod around the entire time. A good couple of hours spent here.
23 Apr 2007 14:43
Visited Lunchtime 5/4/07. Beer good (Brains Bitter). Hardly anyone in the pub though! Only a couple of seats outside the front of the pub for us smokers and again only a couple of people outside despite it being a nice warm day!
10 Apr 2007 13:36
Visited Lunchtime 5/4/07. A packed house! Service was quick and very efficent and pub clean and tidy.
Nice semi enclosed beer garden and caters well for us smokers.
Beer keenly priced and good. Locals and staff friendly. A good couple of pints here I have to say. A contrast to my last visit here. Well done!

Visited Lunchtime 5/4/07. Havent been in this pub for years. Locals friendly and the large beer Garden (Yard) OK for a smoke. Beer (Brains Bitter) Good.
10 Apr 2007 13:28
Visited Lunchtime 5/4/07 abd despite my previous comments have to say had a different experience this time.
Although the choice of beers isnt reallly worthy of note, the company in this pub was up to scratch. A very pleasing conversation and a good smoke in the back yard.

Visited 8pm 28 March. What a gem! Everthing a Pub should be. Wide range of beers at sensible prices, No Big Screens, Nooks and Crannies, everything traditional in every sense...
Well done The Unicorn!

Visited 7pm 28 March. This house has had a make over recently and sells a good range of Sheps beers, including Bishops Finger! The service was prompt and welcoming and the Master Brew was up to scratch. However the client base was somewhat off putting with more "F" words being used than Ive heard in a Public House for many a year! Also to my astonishment half way down my pint an urchin walked in with bycyle which he parked against a table, swore and ordered a pint. Time to go I think....
2 Apr 2007 15:50
Visited 1400hrs 27 March. A spacious, clean pub off the High Street with a warm welcome, friendly locals and a good range of beers. Fullers London Pride very acceptable.
Will visit again soon...

The Royal Naval Reserve, Whitstable
Visited 7.15pm 27 March. Having brushed off the dog hairs gained from my visit to "The Smack" Walked into the RNR.....
I know every Town has to have a place for the Great Unwashed and this is it! A quick about turn and off to Canterbury Im afraid.
2 Apr 2007 15:35
Visited 7pm 27 March. The sign on the door says "NO Dogs". Well the Pub has more Dogs and Cats than Customers in the bar!!!!
One pint of Master Brew followed by a hasty retreat as Im not a dog lover.

Ship Centurion Arminius, Whitstable
Well having bumped into an old mate from way back went to "The Ship" 5pm 27 March. The welcome, banter, service and quality of beer was fantasic.
Well worth the visit!

The Duke Of Cumberland Hotel, Whitstable
Visited at 3pm 27 March. My the Bar Staff here must really enjoy working here! On entry the Bar Lady looked and sounded as though she had been made to work here under protest!!
Chose the Sheps "Early Bird" (the first oppotunity Ive had to taste this year) and was impressed at its quality, despite the general unwelcoming surroundings in the shape of staff and the rather rowdy crowd of people in the Bar. Oh well off to another Whitstable Pub then......

Pearsons Arms, Crab And Oyster House, Whitstable
Visited "The Pearsons" twice on 27 March Afternoon & Evening. Alas although one gained entry to the Pub I was quickly informed that the Pub was closed as they were having windows replaced. Wil add to my list next time Im in the area.

The Clissold Arms, East Finchley
Visited Muswell Hill on 7 March 2007 and alas The Clissold was NOT open ( time approx 2030 hrs)Any news? Is the pub open or closed please ?
18 Mar 2007 14:44
Visited on Mon 22/01 early evening. Pretty quite only two people in plus "The French Barman". Only one beer engine with Invicta Ale. Nice clear pint. Entertainment arrived after five mins in the shape of a dozen or so students who amused us all by playing "18 holes" A new one on me - but the idea is to visit 18 pubs and whoever manages to drink his drink in one scores a hole in one!
1 Feb 2007 15:58
Popped in on 22/01 early evening a few locals in as well as the manager. I love this place, the locals say hello (Im not a Kent resident) and the staff and good. Beer wise 9/10. Tried "Simple Simons" Bitter for the first time after many visits here. VG.

Visited on Tuesday 12th for a pre-Seasonal gargle with an old pal. Worthington much better and the Bar Tender was a gem. We had just finished a pint when he walked over and asked if wanted another. Yes please!and in double quick time he had cleared the empties and delivered two pints to our table. Now thats what I call service.
16 Dec 2006 14:05
Wondered what the long line of "The Unwashed Masses" were doing in St Mary Street this morning - then - ah the penny dropped. Probably the most packed "Spoons" Ive seen at 10am! Joined the packed house at 11am and range of Bitter was good. Quick service too - as 98% of clientelle were sat down with glasses almost empty- even after spending an hour in the place.
If you drop a pound coin in here 10am til 2pm its like trowing a breadcrum on the floor in Trafalgar Sqaure, if you get my drift?
Beer and service good. Patronage changes for evening session ( The after workers rather than the non-workers).
30 Nov 2006 01:10
A well kept Cardiff Suburban Pub, very popular with locals. Brains Bitter and Bitter Smooth Very Good. Food Good and resonably priced.
18 Nov 2006 17:17
Mainly use this place "Off Peak" for a gargle or two with chums after the daily grind. Worthington not always up to scratch and a few P more than other establishments.
18 Nov 2006 17:09
Just to up-date. This establishment is now a Lloyds Bar and called "The Great Western" (as it used to be called before The Bush Pig!).
Gets very busy and sells some of the cheapest beer around Cardiff (a few Ps cheaper than the City Centre Spoons places!).
Good for going in for a few pints after the daily grind!
18 Nov 2006 17:04
Now I have to say "I like this place" Probably only been in here about 3 times, but on my last visit the bar boys were smilling and attentive. Probably had something to with me ordering a bottle of Bolly!(Well was my 50th so...)
In terms of beer, well Im not a fan of Tetleys anything but overall a good kept bar and the most stylish "Gay" bar/pub in Cardiff.
18 Nov 2006 16:57
The Jug and Bottle, Pentrabane
Catch the 61 bus to this Pub, but dont get off! Just carry on back into Cardiff. Beruit springs to mind Im afraid.
17 Nov 2006 14:35
Dreadfull cheap power saving lights in the large lounge area, makes the place seem colder than it already is. Non ability to speak/understand Welsh puts one at a disadvantage hear too!
17 Nov 2006 14:28
You just get time to buy a beer before the fighting starts! Says it all, Im afraid.
17 Nov 2006 14:23
Its a Spoons Pub so you can guess 99% of the details without even going there! Feels strange going in this place at 11am and being the only one sober!! (Bar staff excepted - of course)

The Parrot, Canterbury
Visited 23/07/2008. This establishment is called Parrot (Pub & Dining) NOT Parrots! Yes it has indeed been taken over by "Youngs".
Three out of five beer engines on, garden better, although cant fathom why they have to have a smoking fire outside? Albeit, the garden has very plush furnishings.
However the cahnge has done nothing for improvement in the quality of the toliets or its general appearence.
No Jazz Bands, service not as it used to be and only a prod "Youngs" beer presentation!
