The Hare and Hounds, Manchester
If it's great beer, great staff and a friendly atmosphere and a good chance you can get involved in a traditional sing a long then this is your pub. Wednesday afternoons and Saturday lunch times are always a great fun but drop in anytime for a friendly Manchester welcome and a pint of Sir Joseph Holts...Perfect

The Harbourside Inn, Charlestown
This pub has a wonderful location is modern, serves good ale which is kept well. However, this has to be balanced against often being ignored at the bar at busy (and not so busy times) if you are not recognised as a local and a rude landlord who isn't afraid to offend.
On Christmass Day I visited with wife, two children and my disabled friend who struggled up the steps in order to wish people a Merry Christmas, only to be ignored for 10 minutes at the bar with time being called at 1pm. When I explained the our situation (staff having seen us enter) I was told "It's my Christmas Day too you know" in no uncertain terms. As we left without argument 'known locals' were still being served!
So if it's a quick decent pint you want ok go for it. However, if you want a few pints in a friendly, appreciative atmosphere take a two minute walk up the road to the Rashleigh and enjoy.

I have to agree with nuckster1511.
This is the most welcoming pub in Charlestown by a country mile. As a local I don't mind waiting to be served because we have to recognise that food and tourists help to keep pubs like this going.
The food is good, honest and well priced.
The Beer is kept superbly and St Austell Ales are up there with the best in the country.
The staff on the whole are welcoming and in the pub area the atmosphere is excellent. This is a pub where customers come first, we even recevied a free drink on Christamas Day, which when compared to the other pub near the harbour (see my other review) was appreciated by one and all.
There is also an excellent beer garden for the warmer days.
Everybody welcome, my only gripe is closing time 11pm! I'd like another couple of hours at the weekend to appreciate the place even more! Enjoy

It appears to be gone forever I'm afraid! Sad as Meva needs another pub. Any takers please convert the silly upstairs eating area back to a bar and mind your head going down the cellar!

Has the Lot- Great Beer, Great Food, Great Bar Staff
The Marble Arch has been an institution in Manchester for many many years. It used to be known and loved by beer worshipers but over the years it has matured into a pub that pretty much has everything. Without losing its old worldly charm the MA, as it is fondly known, is at ease catering for a bus full of CAMRA members and would be equally so for a couples night, lads/girls night out or family lunch. Unfortunately I live in Cornwall now and so only visit bi weekly when I am in town to watch City, I take my children who are made as welcome as fans of the opposition.
Love the Lagonda for a sesh or Marble Ginger as a change. Why not ask them to brew a beer for your birthday/christmas/New Year/Just want a drink party they never let you down!
Long live the MA and all who drink in her!

Being a 10 minute walk from the centre of Town this is a great pub to start a crawl of Manchester from. If you don't think eating is cheating there is good food to be had and those who like a good range of well kept ales will not be disappointed. Not quite a local in the City but warm enough to keep you happy. Ambiance and surroundings score well too. And this is proper Manchester whilst there are some yuppie flats around their occupants don't frequent the Marble though if you want a change there are also great lagers and ciders to be had. Oh and Fruesili at 4 a pint not cheap but great drink to refresh the palate! Enjoy

The Coach and Horses, Whitefield
A proper Holts House frequented by proper people. Friendly with excellent beer served in traditional public house. Rumours are Dick Turpin stayed here hence the name of the area Besses O'Th'Barn.
