Classic Potteries style town pub in a lovely spot by the junction of 2 canals. No lager, no music, no games - just good beer served by people who genuinely care about real ale.

The ultimate whisky pub - must have every single malt in those fantastic wooden cabinets behind the bar. Much bigger than it looks from the outside, its easy to walk past and miss it. Apparently they only recently installed a female toilet.

Perfect stop for a pint while doing the 3 Peaks walk. Serves the full range of Copper Dragon beers. Fairly basic inside but very atmospheric and some great railwayana on the walls.

The best pub I've been to in Hanley. Small and cosy, lots of brass and olde world charm. Nice pint of Fuller's London Pride. Best place to sit is in the alcove at the back.

The Catacol Bay Hotel, Catacol
Well kept local Arran beers are available. Good value pub grub worth a try but the main selling point is the fantastic view over the Kilbrannan Sound towards Kintyre. Best to visit in the evening, grab a window seat and enjoy an Arran Sunset.

Without doubt Leek's most esoteric drinking establishment. Yes the beer range is limited, its a little dusty and cluttered in places, and you mey get a funny look if you have not been in before. However, it has bucket loads of CHARACTER. Its a tribute to John and the hardy band of regulars that the Earl is still going when so may other pubs have fallen by the wayside. Sample the very resonably priced whisky, play cards with Joan or listen to a jukebox not updated for about 30 years - a unique experience.

Good mix of locals and tourists - all very friendly as are the owners Francis and Hugh. No cask beers (at the moment) but bottled Cairngorm beers available and McEwans 80/ on keg is ok. Food is better quality than the other pub in the village.

Good_Pubguide is talking rubbish. This is the finest pub I have ever visited, a real rural gem that is worth seeking out. His comment that the 'seating is cramped' totally misses the point. This is a former 17th century farmhouse not a 90s family fun pub!! The lack of a bar, good beers, coal fire and cosy little rooms make a winning combination. I can't comment on the landlady being rude but I've never had any problems. Sadly there are few pubs like this left, so please pay a visit when you're in Derbyshire.

The Crown and Mitre, Kings Lynn
Heard about the pub on this website - it did not disapoint. Me and two mates enjoyed a memorable hour or so sat at the bar discussing all manner of things with Roger the landlord. Very nice well kept Tom Woods beers were sampled. Lovely setting next to the river, fascinating collection of naval memorabilia, friendly locals and an eccentric host make this a sure fire winner. It just goes to show that sometimes it pays to ignire the GBG!
Keep up the good work Roger.
