Samsons Bar, Springbourne

Hard to believe this place as the plush South-Western Hotel, which it was back in the seventies, with an old boy playing a grand piano as you walked in the front door. More like something from Dodge City now. Must be yet another candidate for closure and demolition.

The Blue Boar, Poole

Good real ales but the prices are a complete rip-off. Best avoided unless you've got money to waste. Suspect this may be gay-orientated as very few women frequent this place and the clientele seems to be exclusively male in the 40/50s age group.

The Angel, Poole

Good locals' pub with excellent selection of well-served real ales. Shame that some of the staff and also the landlord are so morose and unwelcoming.

The Lord Nelson, Poole

Having read all the diverse comment about this pub, I thought I'd give it a try. The Hall and Woodhouse Badger beer I was served was probably the worst pint I've ever had in my life. Bland, tasteless, lifeless and served at a near-freezing temperature and grossly overpriced at nearly �3 a pint. Utter pigswill. We then escaped to the nearby Witherspoons where a pint of Ruddles Best and Abbot Reserve, both served in tip-top condition, cost just �3.54. Why on earth, apart from going to see live bands, does anybody bother drinking in the Nelson?
