The Muirhead Inn, Muirhead

Brewers managed house. Very much a local, pool table, darts etc. Does food of a typical sort, not very exciting but cheap. Has upstairs lounge better for eating, and a pretend beer garden next to the main road and car park.

The Two Bridges, South Queensferry

Aimed very much at the family meal - passing tourist market. Does good bar food at good prices, standard S&N beers.

The Ferry Tap, South Queensferry

This place ahs character - very low ceiling, lots of nautical flavour - it's a stones throw from the sea. Good beers, but can be very cliqueish with older clientele.

The Strathbrock, Broxburn

A real dive, been in it three times, not by choice, saw a fight each time and some dubious activities with small packages.

Not worth further comment - dont go there

The Green Tree Tavern, Broxburn

Another of Broxburn's 'charming' local bars. This one has an open fire at one end with the coals falling onto the floor to be kicked back the the oap's.

Definately full of the dregs of the area - avoid

The Badgers Brook, Broxburn

Basic, quite grotty little locals pub. Sort of place where they all stop talking when you walk in and then stare at you continously.

Definatley not for you if you dont smoke 30 a day, thats what you will get a dose of in ten minutes - open the windows!!

The Grenadier Bar, Broxburn

Now called the Bar 53 and been painted up inside, but nothing else changed - it is a great little pub.

The best pub in Broxburn - they actually do keep the monkeyboys out. Has several plasma screens for weatching the football etc, and has DJ 3 nights a week. Beers are a good selection and well cared for but no real ale.

During day it attracts more mauture clientele, but at weekends its a younger crowd - not trouble - just having lots of fun.

Winstons, Edinburgh

This is a small b ar tucked away off the main street in Corstorphine, but it is worth lookinf for. It is generally visited by the local middle classes and can seem a bit cliqueish, but if you are in for a pint and out that wont bother you, Very good beers, excellent Guinness, basic bar snakc - but the lunchtime Stovies are great.

The Horseshoe Bar, Glasgow

A Glasgow classic, I have visited the Horseshoe for 32 years when in Glasgow and always had a reperat experience of value for money, attentive staff and a fine earyhy Glasgow atmosphere.
Visit it - youl enjoy it

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

When I visit London - I always go to the Tower. The food is basic pub grub - but it is good and fresh and cheap. The Guinness is always very well served and competitively priced.

Has a low ceiling so can get a bit smiky if busy, but also has tables outside for a nice sunny day (road is a bit busy but it is central London)

Staff are friendly and attentive, you dont stand waiting for 10 minuted to be served, and they do remember a face.

The Kirklands, Kirkliston

This is one of two pubs in village. This is a down market pub, with a fvery 'local' clientele. It doesn't pretend to be anythying other than what it is. You will find a loud jukebox, obligatory TV, pool table and seperate pool club (membership only can be hired for competitions etc). Limited range of beers, but all served well and value for money.

Staff might not be pretty - but they are genuine and friendly.

The New Liston Arms, Kirkliston

This is one of two pubs and two membership clubs in the village. It is generally accepted that this is the pub for your mum and dad, having no loud music etc. Its erves good quality food at slightly expensive prices every day. It has recently chnaged hands and the new manager is not popular - mainly because he doesn't appreciate the value of a regular customer and has no previous pub experience - it shows. Price shave risen dramaticaklly since he took over with no improvement in service or quality. The beers on offer are usually of a good range - S&N with a few guest beers and probably the poorest quality Guinness in the area (and most expensive).

All in all - iof you arte looking for a quiet, untroubled but expensive pint, then this is the place for you.
