could be so much better..... 4 hand pumps with beers from Jennings, Marstons, Wychwood and Ushers, beer was in good condition however....... it seems whoever own this pub has taken a leaf out of Wells & Youngs book to try and mislead punters into thinking their customers are getting a real choice when all of these beers come from Marston or subsidiary companies and the fact that there is a big sign outside telling eveyone its a "free house" just rubs salt into the wound. The lager/bottled beer offerings are pathetic (read standard pub chain fodder) The pub was only about a third full on a saturday evening, some dreadful din was blasting out of the sound system at a very uncomfortable level - i recall from previous visits atleast one end of the pub had the sound turned down for those wanting to chat and not be deafened, massive tv screens everywhere but nobody actually watching them - again read standard pub chain.
I was handed a card so that if i bought 7 pints of real ale my 8th would be free the only problem was that it only ran for a month and it had already expired. This pub seems to be doing its level best to drive customers away or just hasnt got the faintest idea how to attract them in the first place.

yet another shitty pub of which bedford seems to have a surplus. Obviously desighned for the friday/saturday night crowd as row upon row of watered down lagers await you in this pub that somehow calls itself a"freehouse went for the westons still cider and it tasted more lukewarm watered down piss. Thank god I didnt try the food menu which looked horrendously expensive if its as the beer. The fact that this pub was mostly empty on a sunday lunchtime speaks for itself.

an oasis in the desert, timothy taylors landlord buy 6 get one free,it does not get any better than this but the down side, poxy telly's every where with no one watching them and the gents toilets are truly disgusting dried flegm on the walls, broken tiles, filthy flooors and the smell takes your breath away but not in a good way !!,one of the door locks in the gents has been broken for at least three weeks.
There is no excuse for a pub that charges nearly 3 quid a pint for bitter to expect men to use the toilets in this condition.but when all said and done it's the only pub in the town to my knowledge that sells TTL so I am left with no choice but to drink there for the sake of my taste buds,I must just say the staff are generally very nice and cheerfull but then they must have there own staff toilets !!

Looks like it might have been a decent pub at some stage, but this historic building has been ruined by a partial conversion into a soul-less High Street lager emporium. Had to make do with a bottle of Newcastle Brown with my cheap microwave dinner.
