| My pint of GK Abbot was far too warm, well over the ideal temperature. Next up was Adnams Southwold Bitter, again too warm but also on the turn (end of barrel I suspected). I mentioned it to Gloria, the bar person. She said it was the first pint from a new barrel - I didn't agree with that. She poured another pint through. That also tasted like vinegar. Not satisfied, she ask the manager to try both pints. He agreed they were off, due to end of barrel (as I thought). The replacement was London Pride, slightly warm but passable. Unfortunately it did taste like London Pride. I daren't complain as I would get chucked out. When I did leave I noticed the Adnams bitter was still being served. fugglehops - 28 Jun 2014 23:03 |
| Handy pub for lunch and a pint before visiting the nearby Rye Meads Nature Reserve. Good choice of food including two meals for a set price. Very good quality and good size portions. As for the pint......... The range of beer does not seem to change over the years. Bombardier was off, leaving London Pride (yawn) and Greedy King IPA (double yawn). | Pleasant enough pub by the River Lea if you are out for a walk. Black Sheep bitter was good on my recent visit. It is possible to sit outside, although the noise from the motosport at the nearby Rye House Stadium was pretty intrusive on this occasion. beermann - 22 Mar 2011 15:31 |
| Nice location by banks of River Lea. Local geezers pub. Full of builders and scaffolders who congregate around the bar with shoulders back and crotches out clutching their lager tops. Friendly atmosphere nevertheless. Decent pint of Abbot. Nice garden overlooking river. Pub a bit shabby looking but seemed popular with locals including families.
