Much improved. 4 or 5 real ales on, seperate pizza restaurant and they ofter have music in the courtyard on sunny Sundays. Rammy_Tupper - 30 Oct 2016 17:26 |
Quite a posh interior. There's a sign outside boasting about a large selection of ales but I felt a bit disappointed when I went in. They ran a local beer festival last year, I couldn't make it but I'd certainly go down this year if they held one. I know some people who were very let down with the service at a private function they had there recently, but I suppose that's beside the point. As a pub, it's worth visiting. jarofporter - 1 Apr 2009 01:33 |
The Lion is an old coaching inn on the main road (A6) through Belper. I have driven past it 100s of times but had never been in until a few days ago on a cold snowy February day. Other than the heating being a bit lacking, I was impressed. It was clean, reasonably comfortable and the staff were friendly. There were three mainstream ales on the handpumps Pedigree, London Pride and Landlord plus one from the local Amber micro brewery Barnes Wallis IPA which was excellent. I have no complaints about the food either. The two-course Credit Crunch Lunch at 5 is very, VERY good value. I had home made soup with a freshly baked bread roll and butter, followed by sausages (from a local butcher) with proper mash and yummy onion gravy which was excellent. (There are other options). My wife gave the ladies loo a 5-star rating (quite a rarity !!!) and I couldnt fault the gents either. We will definitely be eating and drinking here again steve2905 - 7 Feb 2009 02:57 |
We called in on a visit to Belper recently but although the young man serving spoke with enthusiasm about real ale, when we returned one that had soured, there seemed to be a reluctance to exchange it. The other ale sampled was not a problem. gillhalfpint - 4 Dec 2006 00:17 |
