Surprisingly busy on Saturday night for a pub that is in the middle of nowhere (albeit on an A road). Traditionally furnished (some nice settles) stone-walled pub that was serving just the one handpull (Doom Bar had been replaced with Cardigan Bay's Sunshine which was in good condition but I can't find any details of it so I hope I've remembered the name correctly). paul_d102 - 31 Aug 2015 19:27 |
Often take our student son here for a good feed when we visit him at Aber. We are always recognised even though we are such occasional visitors. Food is hearty, honest and home cooked just what you need after a day in the hills. Good beer, friendly services, lovely dog and stunning views. RealMum - 26 Feb 2012 08:01 |
I held my cousing Angus McDougal's stag do here. Everything was fine until the bar ran out of Fosters and some wag turned off the Hearts vs Hibs derby in favour of an old episode of 'Going for Gold' on UK Living (a blind contestant won a trip to Paraguay incidentally) The corner shop down the road does a mean scotch egg too. This was one of my locals when I was at university in Aberystwyth (the other was The Fountain in Trefechan) - and was a 7 mile cycle (uphill) from where I lived. Had my first (but not last, thankfully) run-in with Felinfoel "Double Dragon" here (feelin' foul indeed). I remember, vaguely, that the food was good as well. Got snowed in there once, which was interesting ... An absolute bitch of a place to get to if you don't have a car (or aren't prepared to ride your bike 7 miles uphill if you live in Aberystwyth!) but worth it if only for the view across the Rheidol valley. Oh, and the beer too ... Simon Ward - 16 Aug 2003 19:33 |
