Very dark spoons with the same clientele propping up the bar from when it opens to when it closes. Large selection of ales and cheap prices (as most spoons are) It gets busy on a Friday and Saturday night but then when it does the service seems to suffer even more than usual with tables left untidied, but at least if you fancy a chip with your pint there are plenty about. I'd always wondered what the town of Hucknall was like. Now I know it's nothing to write home about. This branch of Wetherspoons had an average spoons interior, combined with the usual shortage of staff, but a reasonable selection of beers. I imagine the Pilgrim Oak is a shop conversion. It is a long, narrow pub with a raised area at the front and a few booths also near the front. Bar staff served out of turn and it took an eternity to get served as training was also taking place. But they were at least friendly. Ales on were Wychwood Hobgoblin, JW Leeds Drayman's Promise, Ruddles Best, Great Western Meerkat Mild, Greene King Abbot, Derventio Cleopatra & Lincoln Green (a new local brewery) Marion. There were also 2 ciders - Westons Cider Twist Raspberry & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. Probably the best choice in the area. blue_scrumpy - 15 Jun 2013 11:35 |
Wasn't impressed when I went in. It wasn't particularly busy yet the service was still slow. ordered some grub which took 45 minutes to get to the table. Not acceptable in my opinion. siddo - 8 Aug 2009 19:18 |
Well, again, after going there for 8 or 9 years (usually after a shopping trip, and needing a pint.. note: singular: pint). I have to agree with others. Service is excecrable. During the day it's almost deserted, but let darkness fall! Soon after that it's shoulder to shoulder standing only, everyone is shouting to be heard over the top of others! Concur on the toilet condition: I have had words about that, so much for the chart: 'these toilets inspected hourly'.. I witnessed no change while 3 people had signed as inspecting... toilet paper strewn across the floor. Service: *WHAT* service? One can wait for up to 30 mins before getting served, and then find the pint you wanted has 'just gone off, sorry!' Tables are rarely cleared, indeed I and my partner have ended up clearing plates and glasses and taking them to the bar, just so there's room on the table! We were, at one point (laugh) told that 'we were taking away the jobs their staff were paid to do!' One good point: the 'Family and food area', non-smoking, and respected. the kids stay out from underfoot in the main area. So they got that right at least. Pity the food is mostly generic crap. skyyfyre - 20 Apr 2009 14:06 |
This seems to have improved since the last review. Can't comment on food, but the beer was OK and whilst not every pump was in use, there were at least 6 real ales on. Toilets not up to usual Wetherspoon standards though. oftenscore6 - 2 Nov 2008 21:09 |
