The Shepherd and Shepherdess is a great family friendly pub that serves good food and great beer. The pub has recently been awarded cask marque status for the exceptional quality of its beers and ales. Food is served all day and the menus is a varied collection of pub favourites. All food is homemade on site and all ingredients are locally sourced and what a difference this makes! Their mixed grill is an enormous feast and not to be missed. The service here is always friendly and the manager Ian keeps a very well run pub. It's a great place to eat if visiting The Beamish Museum as it's just outside the main museum entrance. They also have a great children's play area to keep the little ones happy. We are regular visitors and would highly recommend The Shepherd and Shepherdess to anyone. supersparky - 1 Jul 2013 12:30 |
I've not been for some time, but the recent reviews suggest it's much the same. I've had plenty of good ale and decent enough food here though, and it's good to see that apparently continues. I even saw in the new year here once, but not through choice... eddybeer - 16 Feb 2013 22:14 |
This was the third and last pub we visited in Beamish. The best was the Stables Bar & Restaurant which houses the Stables Brewery and several of its beers, plus the only real ciders we discovered in a total of 20 pubs tried in both Cumbria and Durham. Sadly it is not listed on here. The Shepherd & Shepherdess was a nice enough pub with an L-shaped bar and it seemed to be popular with diners. Black Sheep Best, Wells Bombardier & Copper Dragon Golden Pippin were the 3 real ales on offer. blue_scrumpy - 20 Jan 2012 22:34 |
Chain pub that does food - OK though Sven - 16 Jun 2009 13:44 |
Reasonable fare, busy place for lunch beside the Beamish Museum. Very popular with old people in sensible shoes and chav stanley types with pikey kids. An odd mix. dazzles - 6 Mar 2006 23:57 |
