| Nice, old pub with low ceiling and two upstairs rooms. Took us a long time to get served but this was not the fault of the industrious barmaid who had been left on her own to cope with a busy lunchtime crowd. Did not help that many of the young backpacked patrons seemed unfamiliar with beer or pub etiquette, asking for comprehensive descriptions of every beer, cider and lager without consideration of the long queues behind them. When we eventually got served, my Butty Bach was off but the barmaid replaced it immediately with a profuse apology. To emphasise that this was not a piece of bland 'customer service', she apologised again when she brought us our delicious bagels. | Food here was excellent, has a 'gastro pub' style. Nice decor inside (with some of the original timbers inside). Good service and IMO one of the best eating places in Hay-on-Wye. Prices reasonable and good choice ales/whiskies etc. Ale_Bob - 2 Aug 2009 22:58 |
| This pub is now beautifully restored. Very good beer, still sells cider and the food is well worth trying. This has always been a very special pub to visit but is now well worth visiting.
