This is situated on the edge of Southampton (technically I think it's just outside) on a dead end road close by a motorway junction - well, actually a rare motorway roundabout with traffic lights, the M271 roundabout. There's no signpost pointing to the pub - indeed, where you have to turn off to drive to it, there are two pubs. So you have to know it is here, and you have to be determined to come here, and drive past two other pubs. It was a pub in 1893 when the road did continue somewhere before it was cut off by the building of the motorway. The present landlords have been here for just over three years. It looks like a country pub. Despite the nearby motorway junction it is a rural spot, and there's plenty of parking space by the pub's own field which can be hired for special occasion. There are even horses looking over the fence at the car park. It's a Wadworth pub, which is generally a good sign. But when you get inside the interior is rather plain and tired. And the menu is equally uninspired, though from the layout of the place it appears to get people willing to come and eat herfe on a regular basis. The prices are fairly average. There are two Wadworth casks on. The IPA isn't fresh. There is not a lot here to encourage a repeat visit. SilkTork - 22 Oct 2016 18:24 |
Good, friendly, community pub with lovely garden (though close to M27), Well kept Wadsworth's beers and good food. chrisclipson - 1 Apr 2008 13:58 |
Used to get taken here when a kid. Nothing has changed much as it still is a great place to take kids as they have a large pub garden. Has a BBQ aswell so ideal in the summer. Inside its very traditional with great food and ales. anonymous - 26 Feb 2005 22:32 |
I went to this pub in August last year.I am an Aussie. I loved the atmosphere and clientele. Everybody was friendly and great humour.Food was good and beer great. Good Luck to Barry and Linda for the future. Anna Arvidson - [email protected] - 26 Oct 2004 16:04 |
You can see it from Junction 3 of the M27 and the M271 but you have to approach it through Nursling Street. It's at the end of the road. It has just been refurbished throughout. An old fashioned pub with great real ales. Very good food, great portions. It has a skittle alley that at the weekends doubles as a function room or a restaurant area.
