Two ales on in this proper pub. The Hogs back TEA was fine and the ambience and people were genuine and much more publike than other places in the town. Snarling_Mallard - 18 Feb 2017 23:01 |
Just on the outskirts of Romsey town centre, and a stones throw from where Strongs Brewery used to be, we found The Star. A solid, traditional looking pub from the outside, with a certain timeless quality, though looking a little tired. And awkwardly placed, on the corner of a busy road into the town centre. Inside is a contrast to the outside, as it appears vibrant, modern, quirky, and very welcoming. The two main rooms have been rather successfully knocked through creating a versatile space. There is a huge fireplace on the right that is a delight to sit in front of on a crisp November afternoon. There were several well kept local beers on offer, and friendly advice from the landlady. Small backyard for smokers, and accommodation with breakfast is also offered, so this really does have the feel of a traditional inn. SilkTork - 28 Jan 2017 18:54 |
Visited in January and it was most definitely OPEN.Had a pint of Henry's IPA and it was most enjoyable. Fairly quiet, but it was early Monday lunchtime. Bar staff friendly. Jules_B - 30 Apr 2012 15:43 |

The erstwhile brewery tap for Strongs of Romsey, once a major regional brewery that fell to the long gone Whitbread Empire in 1969, now a Wadworths pub, who would have forecast that? Single bar with a plain drinking area with darts and machine at one end and a more relaxed area with a big screen and sofa at the other. Four pumps selling the Wadworths range; 6X, Horizon, Henrys and JCB plus a cider, lager and Wadworths own smooth. Friendly staff and customers, the punters are a bit younger than some Romsey pubs but this isnt a creche. Pleasant decoration with ceiling beams covered in drinking steins and lots of pictures of old Romsey on the walls. There is often live music here which is always a bonus. anonymous - 9 Jun 2009 11:57 |
