Anothet Ambleside visit. Only beer conumed and the Hartley XB was the best of the weekend.

Good real ale and food pub. Visited on quiet Sunday evening in mid-October. Friendly efficient bar and serving staff. Selection of Hartleys and Robinsons beers on. Good plate-fulls of freshly-cooked food. No chicken dishes available on the night, but he Hungarian meatballs from the specials board were very good, and rare steak cooked nice and rare! Comfortable traditional pub intterior. Relatively unobtrusive background music. Highly likely to return again during this week's say in town.

Respectable, traditional pub with very well kept Robinsons ales (4 on when I turned up) - if you are on look out for real ale in Ambleside try The Gilded Lily and Queens Hotel.

Arrived at 1.52 pm to be told bluntly by the barmand that no food was available (despite being advertised until 2 pm). Left quickly and went to the Golden Rule (best pub in Ambleside).

Looking for decent home cooked pub food in ambleside? This seems to be the recommended place. Lots of traditional pubs in the town but this is the only one that doesnt microwave them. Choice of real ales, which we were able to sample before making a decision. Food was OK. Live music on later.
