Popped in for a quick pint with the wife on a saturday lunchtime. First time we had ever been to this pub. It was reasonably busy, there is a pleasant seating area outside and there was a good choice of ales (i went for the Banks' Sunbeam). I was reliably informed that the ladies toilets were impressively clean; the gents were average. Overall this is a straightforward pub with no false pretences, putting in a shift for the thirsty masses. chimpboy - 17 Sep 2012 13:21 |
We've had 2 family get-togethers here recently and had pleasant lunches. The young ladies behind the bar are both pleasant and efficient...and not one of them called us "guys". c_and_j - 3 Feb 2012 22:41 |
This pub has a unique piece of history as it was the first one to have a Tarratt bar billiards table - in 1930. As in a lot of cases, this was ousted with the advent of the game of Pool in the 1980s. The local pool team here, though resisted the attempted coup to re-establish bar billiards here in 2007. tommo5 - 3 Aug 2011 15:08 |
Ate here a couple of weeks ago and sampled each of the ales/ beers as well, all were fresh and well poured. The food was good and the staff efficent and friendly. we will be returning! qwester - 26 May 2011 22:27 |
Whilst staying with friends I decided to call in. A small friendly crowd were gathered around the bar for the Tuesday quiz night. I took a short while to decide which ale to have and was hurried a little by the barmaid who appeared a little impatient. Went for the Hobgoblin, a good choice as it was superb. Ordered steak and kidney pudding which was very nice and plenty of it. Perhaps I shouldn't have accompanied it with the 3 pints of Hobgoblin. When nature called I was very impressed with the very clean toilets. Think I will call again when in the area. Nice one. Keats - 19 Jan 2011 15:32 |
