Another pub in Forest Hill that I haven't been for a long time, which is strange as I drink at the Capitol enough but never seem to venture any further! The Dartmouth has been more of a foodie pub for many years now but does still retain a small area in the middle where the bar is that's still like a pub, the front area is very foodie as well as the back room, with all tables lined up with napkins and cutlery. 2 ales on the 3 hand pumps which were Shepherd & Neame Spitfire Gold & Brockley Brewery Gold. My pal had the Gold and said it was more than drinkable, while I opted for a bottle from the fridge which was Brick Breweries Peckham Pils @ 4.8%. Modern decor with old style tables and chairs, and some fancy wallpaper. We stayed for just one pint, the pub is decent enough and had a few people in on the Tuesday I visited, not sure why I haven't been in for a long time as it's alright. lezford - 3 Feb 2017 13:26 |
The Dartmouth Arms was probably the worst of the 5 pubs I tried in the Forest Hill area. Situated close to the station, I was the only customer in on a Saturday lunchtime. As the previous poster says, it has a retro feel with strange wallpaper and lighting. There are 3 sections, a front bar where I sat, a small middle bar where you get served and a larger section of the rear where the kitchens are located. Has very much a trendy feel, with music playing to match the ambience. 3 ales were on - Charles Wells Poppy Ale, Adnams Ghost Ship & St Austell Proper Job. I went for the Stowford Press cider. Not somewhere I was tempted to linger. I imagine this pub only really gets going in the evening when the diners come in. blue_scrumpy - 8 Nov 2015 17:16 |
More gastro than pub. Retro-deco, futuristic prices Berboyblue - 6 Nov 2015 11:44 |
NIce cozy boozer at the front. Rather stale looking restaurant out back. Its main faults lack of bar staff serving - expect a line of weary punters standing at the bar wondering where any staff are. Food on a Sunday has now twice been very poor. Food being sent back from more than one table. Not what you expect for a traditional roast. Realised it is best for a couple of evening drinks then moving on to somewhere else. starquake - 30 Aug 2013 16:40 |
Again it's been at least 18 months since I've been here but my last experience was a bit indifferent. Good choice of ales but a bit on the pricey side and the atmosphere was dead, the bar staff looked bored and this mood stayed my whole visit. Food menu was impressive but I have heard its expensive for what you get. Maybe it's time for another visit. lezford - 24 Feb 2013 13:19 |
