BoehmBawerk has it spot on. Ale is generally good - on Saturday they were serving a couple of good choices including a well-kept Dark Star American IPA - but there's just something that's slightly uncomfortable about that lower bar area and you'll be lucky to get a seat in the nicer part as it's pretty small. Greene King's presence is another reason to think twice about a visit.

Decent pub split in an upstairs and downstairs drinking area, had Greene King beer on offer which were well kept and the food in here was very good and reasonable priced.

Popular pub, busy with locals and visitors alike, you may struggle to get a seat if you want to sit down for your drinking.

Because it's mildly offensive to use the word schizophrenic out of context, I'll use the round ball game term coinage 'of two halves' to describe this pub. One section is convivial indeed - cosy and with low level lighting, we enjoyed a good time at the Sunday pub quiz. The other is probably an OK place to watch a game on the big screen but it's lighting and general averageness recalls the hideous bar on nearby Cowley Road. Occasional live bands do enhance matters and the genial service is a winner.

Interesting little pub - came here trying to find 280 bus stop & found out I had 30 mins before it arrived so had a swifter. Pleasant pub with a downstairs restaurant. Think there were 2 beers from the GK stable - I had the Speckled Hen (or maybe it was the Abbot, whatever) & beer was fine. Group locals near me were rather loud but all the same I would pay it another visit.

We were there for Saint Patrick's day this year (2010). Very friendly staff, lively atmosphere and the Guinness was flowing well and good.
