Visited this pub in October for the beer festival so a late review but important to do so. Without doubt one of the BEST pubs I have ever visited. Lovely selection of different areas for having a drink, plus a snug which is outstanding. For those of you who know the Low House snug at Laxfield,Suffolk, the one here is even better. Very friendly landlord and friendly locals who are clearly very proud of THEIR pub and so they should be. Beer and choice excellent when we visited as was the food. Even great pubs have off days so ignore any average reviews as this is one of the great pubs of England that expats drool over and foreigners would think is oh so English. ps if you are lucky a local music man quietly but brilliantly entertains if asked and so adds to the overall character. Ask to hear the pub song. A first ten out of ten for me on this site samuk - 28 Jan 2016 11:40 |
the beer was excellent, but I honestly don't find the place all that friendly. ben23699 - 27 Sep 2015 20:03 |
Good but not outstanding. Very nice interior, 3 open fires, good atmosphere. Nice child friendly conservatory. (Have also been here for Sunday lunch in the past, food is distinctly moderate, and expensive for what it is.) I had a pint of something from Dancing Duck then a pint of Landlord, both perfectly drinkable. ben23699 - 10 Mar 2015 20:30 |
I USED to be a big fan of the Holly Bush, but on a recent visit (last Thursday 28 August) although there was a good selection of beers available, the Brampton Star of India IPA was not particularly outstanding. But what completely p*ssed me off was being served cheese and onion rolls that according to the label had been made TWO DAYS earlier. OK, I did receive a full refund when I returned them unopened, but I certainly won't be returning in a hurry. If a pub cannot be bothered to serve freshly prepared food and instead tries to foist what I consider to be stale produce on it customers, one has to wonder about what other corners the management is cutting …. steve2905 - 2 Sep 2014 05:08 |
