user reviews of the White Swan, Eardisland

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

There was only our party of 8 eating yesterday lunchtime so we had the dining room (and the pub) to ourselves. The recommended Weobley gammon was huge as was the accompanying portion of chunky chips. They obviously thought that one course would be enough as we weren't offered any puddings. They brew their own beer so I had the Simpsons Fine Ales Red Leg which was good. I was told it was 3.7% but other websites have it listed with a different ABV. Other handpulls included Greene King IPA. The building itself is Grade II listed C17, extended late C18/early C19 (the rear range being earlier). It is slightly shabby in places and there isn't any excuse for a loose grubby towel on the window sill being the only way of drying your hands in the gents. But there are some nice features such as a heritage Esse stove, the usual old knick-knacks, timber framing etc.

The place looks clean and the setting is nice (not far from the river, with outside seating) but it's such a let-down. Beer (Wye Valley) is ok but expensive compared to other local pubs and the landlord & landlady do it no favours. She was outside smoking prior to going in to cook some food when we arrived a couple of weeks ago..... He was miserable, couldn't care less, and didn't even say thanks when I left our glasses on the bar on the way out. It'll be a cold day in hell before I go in there again.
