| Perfect location all under 1 roof if you are looking for lovely food, amazing cocktails and a place to put your dancing shoes on!!! Not forgetting the lovely garden at the back with table service and shisha pipes!! | After reading previous reviews about this bar/restaurant, after visiting London for the weekend for a friends wedding, me and my 5 girlfriends decided to come to Greenwich and experience this place for ourselves. We spent the afternoon in Greenwich visiting various tourist attractions. Before we knew it, it was evening time and as it was a Saturday night, we changed into our heels and decided to go on a little bar crawl around Greenwich. We started off in what they call the cutty sark area or the centre of Greenwich should I say. It was rather quite rowdy and after a couple of drinks, we decided to take the short walk up to the North Pole. Well in our heels, it most probably took a little longer than it would have done otherwise. Just as we were approaching it, we all agreed that if it turned out to be how one of the reviews explained it to be, we would catch the train back up to central where our hotel was. Well let me just say this, we didn't get back till gone 4am! It was a truly amazing night in there and if the lights hadn't been turned on, we would have stayed a hell of a lot longer! We were actually presently surprised as to how much fun we had that night in the North Pole. It had a lot to offer with 2 floors of music and 2 djs. Music was great. We loved the fact that the Dj upstairs responded to all of our requests too (unlike in some other places where they do so after 2 hours if ur lucky). Even though it was manic busy, the Dj said he would play our songs and he did. We were dancing the night away! We were also up and down like yo yos as we wanted to dance to both types of music! It offered music to suit everyone of all ages. Cocktails were lush, staff very friendly and helpful! What topped it all off was at the end of the night and how the staff were so helpful in helping us find a cab to take us back. They called it for us and said for us to wait inside until it arrived. As a group of girls, we felt so safe especially with it being so late and what with being unfamiliar with the area. Overall a top top night!! It was amazing! I will be sure to come back when I'm next in town! This time, we will miss out the cutty sark area and head straight to the north pole restaurant which I have yet to experience (sure this has even more to offer!) and then down to boogie boogie boogie!! | I haven�t felt compelled to write a review like this before but I really would like to warn people about this place. We got there at about midnight and paid �5 each to get in. The ground floor bar seemed to be ok except for the fact that men out numbered women by about 10 to 1. The trouble started when we went downstairs to the basement club �the south pole�, it is seedy and again filled almost exclusively with groups of men but I was kind of expecting that from what it was like upsatirs. I was with 2 girlfriends and we walked in an started dancing after about five minutes a guy that was standing at the side came over to tell us to dance somewhere else. We took this as a joke at first and ignored it but when we didn�t move away he returned with another guy and shouted at us to move away now or he and his friend would �smash our faces in� he was in our faces at this point and a bouncer came over and told us to move away a bit but stay there so that he could see what they would do!!! I was shocked, the bouncer had seen and heard what had happened and wanted to use us as bait to see what they did! We moved to the other side of the room and continued dancing only to have the guys surrounding us start to touch us, they started my repeatedly stroking our hair and trying to grind up against us and then moved on to what can only be described as groping! We tried to fend them off and I also went to another bouncer to ask for help but he said he could do nothing and maybe we should just go upstairs and dance. We left after this, in all were there for about 45mins, as we waited for a cab upstairs we were asked by the owner how our night was, I tried to explain to him how I felt being downstairs and he laughed it off and said that as long as he doesn�t see anything he will do nothing and that the men downstairs come for a good night out too! I wasn�t drunk and I go out to clubs often, I have never experienced anything like this place before, I genuinely felt unsafe. I have been to the restaurant before and I can honestly say it was nice but I would warn any girl never to go there for a drink or to dance! Jenagard - 26 Oct 2010 13:10 |
| well, my wife and I and 2 of our friends who live in SE8 development went for diner on friday and we were again very impressed. Suzy-sue says that its no longer a restaurant??? On the first floor we had a lovely first class meal with a pianist entertaining us on the grand piano they have. The service from Mr Kumar was terrific and the free champagne on arrival is a nice touch. We had a 3 course set menu for �25 per head that we were very happy with and the food is best described as modern european. Ive eaten at the Guildford Arms and Inside as well as Bar du Musee and Rivington and can easily say that this place is just as good - perhapos the fantastic pianist even swings my vote towards the North Pole. We headed down to the bar after our meal and the music playing was club classics and disco style. The crowd were a lot younger than that of the restaurant but we certainly didnt feel out of place (our age group was late 30s). I definitely felt safe and saw no signs of the illicit activities that previous reviewers have claimed. Yes, the decor is a little tired, the disco lights look a little naff but the atmosphere was good, the drinks were very good (2 for 1 on cocktails on a friday night all night!) and the staff were very friendly and polite. We were all very happy and will definitely be adding this place to our list of favourite places. After some research, I found that the restarurant is advertised on top table - I suuggest you check out the reviews on their from genuine diners - they have a very good rating! deanbramley1 - 30 Jun 2010 19:17 |
| Went yesterday for the Eng v Slovenia game and was quite impressed actually. They had a tv on the front terrace which was packed and loads of tvs in the main bar which was also packed. was about to walk out when the guy on the door told us there was a garden at the back with screens too. when we went out there it was really nice. there was a bbq, two massive umbrellas and also 2 tvs and it was a great atmosphere. we had a jug of peroni on tap for 10quid and a couple of burgers and thought that the venue was good. the recent negative comments surprised me a bit because it really didnt seem that type of place? will definitely be goin in the evning this friday and again on sun afternoon for the eng v germany game so will keep u posted but it seems that the managment have sorted things out? my work colleague told me the restaurant on the first floor is very good so will probably try it on friday. deanbramley1 - 24 Jun 2010 13:14 |
