As I noted in November 2014 I really like this pub. My 2015 UK pub has just ended & I can only endorse my earlier opinion. I visited on 3 occasions this year, each time the place was reasonably crowded with spots fans (cricket, F1 & football), diners & drinkers and all were getting prompt & polite service. A bearded Irish bloke I took to be the manager took the time to commiserate with me over the cricket. I drank Pride on each visit, 3.35 & quite satisfactory. I don't know what's happened to this place, we've been coming here for years and always found it to be a fairly decent place for food and drink. However on our most recent visit (2/1/15), it was the most shambolic pub experience I've ever encountered. Firstly the young lad behind the bar clearly didn't want to be there and had no concept of serving customers in the correct order. Also he is possibly the slowest barman I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. After finally managing to obtain a round of drinks we found a table and I made a visit to the gents. About halfway down the stairs the smell was disgusting and as I reached the bottom of the stairs I saw water running out of the gents and onto the wood floor outside. As I (stupidly) continued into the toilet the dirty water was at least an inch deep in places. Environmental health would have a field day here. Back upstairs we ordered some food which arrived after about 45 mins, some warm some cold but edible. My partner and son decided that they would have a pudding so I off I went to be ignored at the bar for another 20 mins. When the puddings eventually arrived they both had custard when I had specifically asked for one with ice cream as my son doesn't eat custard. When enquiring about this I was told they haven't got any ice cream. Upon leaving I asked the disinterested barman if the landlord was away at the moment to which he replied yes. Let's hope he gets back soon while the place is still standing. There seems to be similar reviews appearing on trip advisor recently as well so this clearly wasn't a one off. I really like this pub. Came across it a few UK pub crawls ago, and always drop in, more than once, on each visit since. I can think of no outstanding feature; but it has the basics well covered. And its cheap! Pints of Pride for 3.15 on a couple of visits, and a Greene King IPA for 2.75 on another. Well sorted for sport, tasty pub food, cheap beer and only a stone's throw from Oxford Street. A good pub to go to for food and for sport, as it has many fair sized flat screen TV's in there and normally have sports on them, especially football. Not sure which company run it. For a pub in central London it is quite big and has a seating area. It even had a pool table too at one point, which is very rare for central London. Very clean and well mantained, get just ordinary people in there, also has a Juke Box, although I never see anyone using it. I would say easily up in the top three of best pubs in Soho. What a huge difference since the refit / new management! Really lovely staff who seem to actually give a shit about their jobs - preety unusual in central. Great for sports, whether it's a big football game or some obscure tennis match. zomble - 3 Jun 2012 19:00 |
