Visited for evening meal. Waited 50 mins for the food to arrive even though there were just a few people in the pub, goodness knows how they would have dealt with a busy night. My husband was outside having a ciggy when a car rapidly pulled to a halt outside, the chef came out and hurridly went back inside the building carrying a box....15 minutes later we finally got our meal... it appeared to be a dash for provisions. The mixed grills were so large it was offputting to see, and they were served on stainless steel meat platters...more like feeding time at the zoo!! The pub totally lacks atmosphere and the menu was 75% chicken dishes, and far too pricey. I would certainly not recomment this pub to anyone, there are far better in the area. A dull, uninspiring, characterless restaurant area. We (4 diners) opted for the lunchtime menu which was very limited but low cost. Unfortunately, the portions and the service were reflected in the price.A coffee cup which had had a dishwasher bypass was replaced with rudeness and indiffernce. The limited dessert menu meant we, and other diners, opted for desserts from the main menu at an unacceptable on cost.We will not be visiting again ! k2115a - 5 Apr 2008 20:11 |

The pub comprises two rooms with the front perhaps overly fussy and the back rather spartan and is situated too close to the Foss but too far from the pleasant village. All that said, this pub is now under new and enthusiastic management provides good reasonably priced food and serves well conditioned Abbot and IPA. In summer it has a pleasnt if small garden. (When I questioned the quality of one pint one busy lunch time the barrel was immediately replaced as was my pint and a further half given in compensation for the wait.) tim - 22 Dec 2003 18:19 |
