Currently closed. St Austell brewery advertising for yet another publican to take over. This pub/hotel is in a wonderful part of the world with a great history behind it but seems to have had a new publican nearly every year.....some better than others.... in the past five years or so. It seems a shame/rather odd that such a place seems not to be able to retain its licensee's. ridleyman - 10 Oct 2015 18:24 |
We paid 3 visits to this pub over the last couple of days because it is the only proper pub in Lynton. Previous reviewers have described this place well; a mixture of locals and tourists in a shabby, convivial pub. The £3.30 Tribute had run out by our last visit today but the HSD was in fine form last night as we listened to a great female singer until midnight. Loved the wall murals, certainly more interesting than your usual nondescript prints. paul_d102 - 25 Aug 2014 21:20 |
Great little pub...friendly barman, friendly locals, cheap but good beer and a lovely warm atmosphere. Good music as well (apart from having to suffer a Queen album). Thoroughly recommend. thinly..slced..cheese - 23 Mar 2013 16:11 |
Went in here for the first time this week for lunch. We were greeted by a very smart man behind the bar. The interior is a little shabby and needs some updating, but it is clean. I ordered a pint of Proper Job, and as it was the first to be served that day he pulled off a fair quantity from the pipes before he filled my glass. The beer was excellent. We ordered lunch; a ham baguette and a cheese sandwich, expecting to be given just that, but they came on large plates with very generous helpings of both salad and fries. The baguette was 4.95 and the sandwich 4.50. My baguette contained plenty of very good home cooked ham. I noticed that the barman (who may be the licensee) greeted everyone who entered, the majority, like us, appeared to be visitors to the town. The toilets were spotlessly clean. There is a notice outside stating that Tristan and Naomi welcome you to the Crown. In view of an earlier review on this site referring to Martin & Bev it would appear that there has been a further change of licencees recently. Having been unhappy with previous visits to the well known pub down the hill at Lynmouth we will certainly be returning to the Crown very soon. Handyman - 6 Oct 2012 11:10 |
