Another of Rose Streets famous old pubs bites the dust. Some will remember it as The Goblet, some as Brecks, but I wonder how many will remember the pseudo cocktail bar that it has now become in a few years time. Millay - 17 May 2009 21:00 |

I had in the past spent many a happy hour drinking at this pub. In years gone by it was called the 'Goblet' and I still have the Scottish triple crown winners tie to prove this. The pub has changed of course and from a sentimental point of view I returned to see it once more. Not always the best thing to do, it was a hot day and the pub was not air conditioned so not too comfortable and in truth a bit dissapointing all round. The disconnected old phone line ''I'll be home late'' corner was still there as an earlier report states. I am sure this pub is well located in the popular Rose Street and enjoys its regulars. gasman - 26 Sep 2005 21:49 |
This pub made our stay in Edinburgh the best weekend we could of asked for. The atmosphere was great and all your bar staff were really friendly. Your door staff were fantastic too, especially Nicky. We were well looked after and couldn't of asked for better staff. You really should take Nicky (GOD) on full time. Maxine Burns - [email protected] - 9 Apr 2004 01:12 |
A fairly large pub with double frontage halfway along Rose St. Whilst it is not exactly anti-English is doesn't seem too tourist friendly. Local rumours tell of the attempted murder of an English bank manager here some years ago, perhaps he turned someone down for a loan. In one corner of the bar you will find a small window seat next to which you can see where a telephone was once located. In the days before mobile phones this was colloquially known as "I'll be home late" corner. Millay - [email protected] - 28 Nov 2003 17:09 |
