The Johnson Arms is situated next to the canal and very close to the local hospital and university. My first stop on the outskirts of Nottingham early on Saturday afternoon and I was the only customer in. The interior seemed nice enough. But, it was difficult to judge, given the lack of atmosphere. The 3 ales on when I arrived were Laine Breaker, St Austell Tribute & Nottingham Sooty Stout. But the landlord was busy pulling through Marston's Dr Johnson Pale Ale & Lincoln Green Strike. The cider was Thatcher's Cheddar Valley. It's location feels a bit out on a limb. blue_scrumpy - 8 Apr 2019 18:18 |
Found the place by accident whilst exploring the extension to the Nottingham tram system. Quiet, traditional pub, good selection of local ales, the one I had was in good nick. ellisref - 19 Nov 2015 20:52 |
The epitome of a fantastic pub. Fantastic beer, always perfectly poured, great bar staff, great jukebox music played at an agreeable volume, huge grassy beer garden. The management have really succeeded in making this pub appeal to everyone, from students (mainly postgrads) and locals. Frequent events from morris dancing to music festivals mean there's something for everyone. MX7 - 24 Jul 2010 16:35 |
I went here on a Thursday night in March. It wasn't busy, but there were a few people in. The beer (Real Ale) was excelent and not expensive. I liked the music as well, not too loud, 80s, 90s, 00, rock guitar etc. A bit of pop. Good pub, i'd go again. mooseo - 12 Apr 2010 17:23 |
As a student at Notts Uni who loves his ale, this pub has been a gem of a find. We are all now regulars there. Don't get the wrong impression, it's not a students pub. There's a fine mix of regulars and students and both are treated with the now famous Johnny Arms hospitality. Food's great, the snacks are top notch, and they really know how to keep their ales. Regular beer festivals, quiz nights, poker nights mean that there's never a dull moment. What a beer garden! A true gem. Great pub. 10/10 Maino - 25 Nov 2007 19:30 |
