This place had clearly had a quick coat of paint to smarten the place up for the scooter rally and bringing in a northern soul DJ to attract the crowds.I didn't have a chance to get a drink because the sound system was so tinny I and most others had to vacate the place after a couple of minutes. What a racket!! Sort that out Mr and Mrs Managers and you may have a few more punters next year.My ears are still ringing now. wurzel - 1 Sep 2015 14:32 |
Great new management really bringing the place round. Freshly prepared food at competitive prices. Weekly quiz and darts makes it more and more a friendly and welcoming local. BigGq8 - 3 Oct 2011 21:03 |
My wife and I stumbled across this bar/diner whilst looking for somewhere to eat with our two very young children. From the outside to be honest it does little to inspire. However from the moment that we stepped inside the welcome and service that we received was nothing short of fantastic; They couldn't have been more accommodating to our children if they had tried. On visiting the bar I was slighlty dissapointed by the lack of any cask ale but a superb pint of Guiness and a couple of glasses of good pedigree wine more than made up for this. The food menu at first glance appeared to be the standard fare of burgers, battered fish and one or two creatively named sandwhches. My wife chose the 'freshly caught' battered cod, and fries and I went for a thai chicken curry from a specials board, given to us by one of the charming members of staff. The staff were very friendly, offering games and books to our children, and the changing facilities were adequate too. Quite simply, the food was amazing. I was astounded by the thai dish with it's exquisite mixture of flavours that had been expertly crafted by the chef. The battered cod was absoultely huge and full of flavour - indeed my wife later claimed that it was the best battered fish that she had ever tasted! The Marine bar doesnt appeal in the way that a cosy - and often overpriced - country pub might. It lacks the character and pretentiousness to pull this off. What is does offer though is food of the very highest standard (especiall;y considering that the average price on the menu was around 8) and staff that obviously care a great deal about making this establishment a success. tantan - 2 Aug 2009 22:31 |
Tempted in by offers of cheap food, I thought at first that I was in a 1980s chip shop due to the vile blue woodwork. The only thing missing was the tiles with dolphins and lobsters on. They advertise 'cask ales' ouside, and do sell Yates Undercliff Experience, but it might as well have been Heinz Big Soup , it had so many lumps. The food was passable, but as for masquerading as a pub...What a waste of a fine old seafront pub. Jimbo Smith - 24 Jul 2004 18:38 |
