A range of casks available but was let down by poor service from staff on our visit. This was a shame as I really rated the place on previous visits. alexw - 10 Sep 2017 19:40 |
Nicholsons bar in a prominent position at a busy road junction and transport interchange. It's not quite as large as it looks from the outside. But it was still fairly comfortable. Has a decent selection of ales, typical of other Nicholsons establishments. Ales were national than most Edinburgh pubs/bars - Caledonian Deuchars IPA & Stewarts 80/- were the Scottish representation, whilst they also had St Austell Nicholson's Pale Ale, Brains The Rev James Gold, Black Wolf Rok, Robinsons Trooper, Thwaites Wainwright, Hadleys Gold & Shepherd Neame Red Sails. This was also the first pub I found real cider in - Old Rosie was on. Nice interior and very handy for Haymarket station. blue_scrumpy - 30 Jul 2015 20:43 |
Called in here Saturday March 14th as part of a day trip to Edinburgh from Cheshire. I agree with the previous two reviewers, and I can only add that the points they have made add up to The Haymarket having a friendly warm atmosphere. Had a nice pint of Stewart's 80/-, "a classic Scottish Heavy" according to the pump clip - spot on. Malty and slightly sweet, very drinkable. Good range of beers too. A decent Nicholson pub, 12 handpumps available and even allowing for a couple of duplicates and one being off, still an impressive range. A modern refurbished interior, but done tastefully. Worth a visit and very handy for Haymarket Station. alexw - 15 Apr 2014 23:33 |
Another of the Nicholson's chain with an impressive range of handpulled beers although on my visit they only had two Scottish ales on. However, the manager did say he had more in the cellar. The pub is well-furnished and the staff polite and the service good. Food is available thoughout the day but a previous reviewer obviously had an issue with timing so best to check. This is a very handy pub for Haymarket station and the airport bus stop (and one day the tram - if it ever gets running). I would recommend this bar rather than Ryries which although nearer doesn't always have real ale available. mcroyal - 12 May 2012 18:08 |
